Which is better, NIT Kurukshetra CSE or NIT Calicut CSE ?

NIT Calicut has a 31 NIRF Ranking in 2022 and a 56.66 NIRF Score, while NIT Kurukshetra has a 50 NIRF 2022 Ranking and a 50.11 NIRF Score.
The highest CTC at NIT Calicut was INR 67.6 LPA, while the average CTC was INR 12.1 LPA. So far, 1138 students have been placed. The placement drive attracted over 200 recruiters. One of my cousins is a recent graduate of NIT Calicut and here are some of the changes he witnessed on the campus. He mentions that the MHRD of the current government is doing a good job of bringing positive changes.
- Color-coded Trash Bins: It was recently inaugurated by the institute and will result in keeping the institute immaculate and tidy.
- Satisfaction Survey From TEQIP II: This survey is the connector between students and the MHRD. Through this survey, you can report complaints against the administration for any cause they particularly do not support.
- Youth Exchange Program: It is a special privilege for the students of NITs and IITs. For better information, you should refer to the updated notice announced by the Students Affairs Council on the NIT Calicut Facebook page.
- The National Expo: The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) has been founded only for the students of NITs across the country to attend the India-US Summit and Knowledge Expo. This is the only opportunity when you can directly take up your project to multiple industrialists.
- Nalanda Library: NIT Calicut’s Nalanda Digital library has once again begun getting back to working condition.

Between NIT Calicut and BITS Hyderabad, the latter is the better option irrespective of the branch you are getting. Here are a few points of difference between the two institutes.
- BITS Hyderabad EEE placements are great and students get placed in core electronics companies such as NVIDIA, National Instruments, Texas Instruments, MediaTek, etc while NIT Calicut has very few core companies and students are usually placed in IT companies.
- BITS Hyderabad charges very high fees whereas NIT Calicut charges average fees.
- BITS Hyderabad offers a better exposure and research culture in comparison to NIT Calicut.
- BITS Hyderabad has an excellent faculty pool and the labs are equipped with modern instruments much better than NIT Calicut.
In my opinion, BITS Hyderabad should be your preference provided that you have no monetary issues.

- IIT Tirupati- The permanent campus, proposed to be spread across 530 acres, is under construction as of now and students have to stay in a transit campus.
- NIT Calicut- Spread across 300 acres space, has state-of-the-art infrastructure. Well equipped labs with over 1.5 lac books and journals.

Can one get admission into NIT Calicut via the Kerala State Entrance Exam (KEAM)?
No, you will not get admission to NIT Calicut with your KEAM score. Because NITs and IITs are institutes of national importance, admission is done through National level entrance examinations rather than regional entrance tests. For admission into NITs, the score of JEE(Main) is considered, whereas, for IITs, the score of JEE(advanced) is considered.
Students who completed their XI and XII exams outside of India can apply for DASA seats using their SAT Subject Test scores, and they can also apply for a scholarship through the CIWG scheme, which reduces their tuition to that of JEE students.
What are the drawbacks of NIT Calicut?
Like any other University, NIT Calicut has a dark side too. Let us go through the negative side of NIT Calicut. There are also certain problems faced by mostly North Indian students.
- No internet connection in hostels: None of the hostels have internet facilities which is the biggest problem in today's world. Upon this, there is a network issue too. Only BSNL works to an extent to get speed internet. Even the campus lacks good WiFi service.
- Mandatory attendance: It is compulsory to have a minimum of 80% attendance, otherwise you will not be allowed to attend the exam or your grades will be seriously affected. This can turn out best or worst for you based upon your punctuality.
- Obsolete curriculum: The curriculum seems to be outdated and not at all on par with current technologies and industrial requirements. Unnecessary concepts are stuffed in the syllabus while some interesting and important concepts based on competitive exams point of view are missing out.
- Strict curfew for girls: Girls are supposed to be back in their hostel before 7 PM. No excuses are given even when you have some genuine reasons.
- Cultural difference: If you are from North India especially, you will find it pretty hard to get adjusted to this new environment. There is a definite language barrier while interacting with locals. You will feel as if teachers are more favorable towards native students though it might not be the actual case.
- Reservation: Just like any other institutes there is a huge caste reservation system. General /OBC students pay around 50K while SC/ST students pay 50 rupees. Just an opinion that when seats are given on a merit basis, the fee must also be paid accordingly
- Food: If you are pure vegetarian or vegan, you might find it really hard to get adjusted to the food of Calicut. The campus still tries its best to provide good food. A mini canteen at the campus is made quite affordable too.
All these drawbacks are very much negligible when compared to the quality of education you receive at NITC. These problems only exist till you get adjusted to the campus.
How much should I score in JEE Mains inorder to get ECE in NIT Calicut?
The aspiring candidate should not think about this right now. As we all know, the cutoff trends change every year. If the candidate wants an approximate idea, they need to add +15 marks to the previous year’s cutoff marks. The cutoff marks differ for home and other state students.
