I am going to spend the next 2 years of my life at IIM Ahmedabad. What should I expect?
Expectations provide very little benefit. So take the plunge; you will not be sorry.
You can almost certainly anticipate the following:

Pull your socks up because you're in for a heavy dose of academics mixed in with a slew of other activities. Good grades do not necessitate a high level of intelligence, but hard work and dedication are required.

Within a week of meeting your batch mates, all of your bubbles will burst. You will come across people who excel at everything they do. However, this is an opportunity to learn from the people. That location's best feature is peer learning.

There is a club for almost everything. On campus, there is always some sort of event going on. And, yes, people do have time for those. So come with an open mind and embrace the forces of change that are at work here. You will almost certainly learn a new skill or two.
People fantasize about getting into the university. However, as the two years come to an end, people begin to feel nostalgic about the campus. The campus is fine, and the infrastructure is excellent. And city considerations are secondary; you won't have much time to enjoy the city's haphazard traffic or the searing heat.

Are the job profiles offered at MDI Gurgaon on par with IIMs like LIK, not ABC? How much effort does one have to put into his future to get on par with the IIM graduates if one graduate from there?
IIML is clearly superior to MDI in non-marketing specializations in terms of placement. However, IIM I, K, and MDI are generally equal in terms of placements, except for a few banks that specifically seek out the IIM tag at I&K. If you work equally hard at either campus and all other operational factors are constant, you will likely end up in a similar position whether you choose MDI or I or K. However, as mentioned before, IIML still has the edge and requires more effort if you're in the finance or consulting field.
If you're interested in MDI, it's worth noting that recent placement reports show more and more prestigious finance and consulting companies are visiting the campus. This has helped MDI deliver well-rounded placements. So, if you're willing to put in the work, MDI could be a good option for you.
Why do most chartered accountants fail in the finance courses at IIM Ahmedabad?
Some Chartered Accountants or commerce graduates may have struggled with final courses at IIM Ahmedabad, possibly because the courses are far too advanced and specialized (such as financial engineering subjects), or because IIM A likes to surprise students in a variety of ways.
However, this is a rare case. This does not happen very often.
How good is placement at ISB, Hyderabad compared to IIMs (since number of students are much more in ISB, leading to tough competition)?
When comparing the placements of the two, ISB and IIMs, the batch size hardly matters because both institutes market different products. The background and profiles of students of both institutes are too versatile to draw comparisons. If I roughly divide the ISB students and the kind of placement scenario they face then
- 90% of students get their dream jobs in the desired sector and company
- 10% of the students get jobs that are below their expectations but not worse enough to forgo the offers
So the batch size does not matter here and ISB Hyderabad placements are themselves quite satisfactory.
Is there anybody who took a drop for CAT and got selected in IIMs?
Yes, there are many people who took a drop for CAT and got selected in IIMs. At this stage, your interview matters the most. So read well and prepare the best to answer ‘what were you doing in the meantime’.
Answer this question confidently because here they are not exposing your weakness but testing your confidence in yourself. Just say that I was preparing to be here for the interview. Further you can claim that all the other candidates who have taken CAT are still at a level same as yours in the interview round. So rather than experience it’s one eagerness and ambitions that counts.
All you need to do is impress the interviewer and you are good to go.
Is ISB better than IIM Ahmedabad for someone wanting a career in product management in India?
If you're considering pursuing a career in product management, it's important to choose the right business school that offers the best program and opportunities for this field. While both ISB and IIMs are well-known institutions for management education in India, there are some key differences to consider when it comes to their product management programs.
Here are some factors to keep in mind:
- Product management is not a top preference at IIMs: Unlike some other business schools, product management is not a major focus at the IIMs. As a result, there are relatively fewer opportunities for students to learn about and pursue careers in this field.
