IIEST Shibpur is the best place for research purposes, and if someone wants to do research and further studies in Mathematics, IIEST Shibpur can be the right choice for him/her. IIEST was ranked 7th by NIRF in the Research parameter. The overall rank of this institute is 20th in India.

MSc. in Mathematics is a two years course degree offered by IIEST.

Admissions and cut-off:

• Fifty percent of the available seats to the MSc courses are admitted through Centralized Counselling for MSc.(CCMN) with mandatory JAM.

• IIEST holds its own test and interview process for the rest fifty percent seats.

• Requirements for admission in MSc Maths: 6.5 CGPA for OC/OBC and 6.0 for SC/ST/PWD out of 10.

Course fee:

The fees per year for an MSc degree in Maths is around INR 41,500.

Other facilities:

• Both Pure and Applied Mathematics for a Master of Science degree is offered here.

• A unique DTP facility laboratory is provided for MSc. Mathematics.

Placements- Most students of MSc Mathematics choose higher studies after the compilation of the course. The median salary offered to the students at the institute in placements is 6.5 LPA.

Being one of the most prestigious colleges in India, IIEST Shibpur has received many accolades over the past. It offers all the necessary facilities that a research student will need and offers great placement to the students. Getting admission in this college is tough, as the best students from all over the country try to take admission here. So, if you want to pursue a career in Mathematics then there should not be any second thoughts about joining IIEST Shibpur.

One of my friends shared his experiences with me. Following are the experiences which may cover two questions, considering this question.

Students asked here about the environment of IIEST Shibpur; the answer is as follows. It highlights the two main environments: The Physical Environment and the other is Social Environment.

• Physical Environment: It has a green and clear environment surrounding the institute, as green plants completely surround the campus, and there are several lakes inside the campus. However, it is quite rare in other institutes. The famous Acharya J.C.Bose Botanical Garden is very near to this institute, and the campus is full of scenic beauties. Additionally, the institute is not located in the much-urbanized area, but you can get local shops nearby and Avani mall in a very little distance.
• Social Environment: Students here maintain a friendly atmosphere. Seniors are also very helpful. Thus, this institute has a peaceful campus environment, which assures an enjoyable life in their 5 years of study. Students can participate in the sports and games conducted by the college administration; they can meet in the clubs that assist in making a diverse network by sharing individual skills and knowledge. Moreover, this institute has a conducive atmosphere for academic studies.

If you are concerned about ragging the non-Bengalis student, then the answer is a big No. My friend has told me that he had a friend from U.P, and both of them never faced any type of severe ragging in this institute. IIEST is strict enough for this of incidents; thereby, ragging is imaginary in this institute. But you must show respect to the senior students.

Both IIEST and IIITM Gwalior offer CSE and IT as their flagship courses respectively. The deciding factor here is which subject you are more inclined towards.

If you are passionate about CSE, then IIEST is the best option. Being the second oldest engineering college in India; it has an amazing faculty-Student ratio of 1:14 with highly qualified faculties and visiting professors from IITs, NITs, and other renowned Universities. IIEST is ranked 21st for engineering in 2020.

If your interest lies in the IT field, IIITM Gwalior must be your priority. Ranked 100 for engineering by NIRF in 2020, IITM offers IT as its flagship course.

Admission:

IIEST:

• For admission in IIEST, aspirants must clear JEE Main.

• With the ranking of 4165-10909, one can secure admission in CSE at IIEST in the first round.

• Aspirants from the General (PWD) category must secure a rank below 522 for the same course. Whereas students belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer) must secure a rank within 4,398.

• IIEST offers a total of 120 seats for CSE with the annual Tuition fee of 70,000.

IIITM Gwalior:

• Securing the rank within 9713-14442 in JEE Main will fetch admission in the IT department of IIITM Gwalior.

• Cutoff falls down to 3,800- 6,300 for OBC (Non-creamy layer) and General category students.

• The admission process is carried through JoSAA Counselling and CSAB Special Round.

• IIITM Gwalior offers 262 seats for the IT branch with a yearly fee of 84,325.

Placement statistics:

IIEST:

• Around 100 large to medium-sized companies take part in campus recruitment every year.

• Industry giants including IBM, Microsoft, Maruti, TCS, HSBC Technologies are the top recruiters.

• CSE branch in IIEST has the current placement rate of 72% with 462 students being placed in 2020.

• The average CTC offered for CSE students is 9 LPA with the highest CTC of 39.12 LPA.

IIITM Gwalior:

• 400+ companies participate in the recruitment process every year.

• Top recruiters include Amazon, Expedia, IBM, TCS, HCL, DELL, Paytm, Myntra.

• 90% of the students get placed at top companies with an average salary of 14.58 LPA.

• The highest domestic CTC offered in 2020 is 42 LPA.

Both IIEST and IIITM Gwalior are best in the respective courses offered. The deciding factor here is which branch you find perfect for your interest among CSE and IT.

NIT Durgapur and IIEST Shibpur both are excellent universities for pursuing Bachelor's and Master's in Engineering. Both institutes are located in different parts of West Bengal in famous areas. NIT Durgapur has been ranked and 46th in Engineering Category by the NIRF Rankings in India. It does carry a reputation value to the degree by being a premier institute of Engineering. IIEST is a lesser-known institute but well advanced in their research faculty and content.

In a nutshell:

Courses:

• Metallurgy or Biotechnology at NIT can only be selected after the first year depending on the marks scored by the candidate. Since it is a premier institute, it will be relatively difficult to get the subject of your choice.
• At IIEST, metallurgy is offered in B.Tech however, mining engineering is only offered in the dual program of B.Tech + M.Tech. Thus students who wish to pursue mining engineering at IIEST Shibpur will have to go for the dual degree program.

Admission:

Admission at NIT would be much more competitive than IIEST. It requires a higher JEE mains rank. The choice of the subject involves even more competitiveness as it is done at the end of the first year based on CGPA. Most students who get selected at NIT do not wish to go for metallurgy, however, if you are interested, then it is one of the best institutes. IIEST is relatively easy when it comes to admissions and choice of subjects.

Placements:

• At IIEST metallurgy and mining are considered as research-based subjects and thus do not have high paid placements at the start. However, the mining course does offer better placements and opportunities to study at other premium and specific institutes in India which can land a good job in the future.
• NIT Durgapur, on the other hand, can provide better placements due to its reputation standard.

The B.Tech. program at IIEST may not hold much value, but it is supplemented by excellent research professors who encourage students to take part in national missions and research projects. The competitiveness at NIT won’t provide that opportunity to every student.

Most of the institutes do not allow students to change the department. But, IIEST Shibpur allows the students to change at the end of the first year of graduation.

The process of change is mentioned below:

• The first step to change is to fill the application form for a change of department.
• Change is allowed in the department based on CGPA.
• For this, you need to work pretty hard in the freshman year. You must secure a minimum of 9 CGPA. The interested students must be in the top 10% of the batch to be eligible for any change.
• Each department states its vacancy limits. If you have applied for a popular branch, your application for change might be rejected as many students will be ahead of you.

The first-year syllabus is the basics of all the departments. It explains the basics of computer programming, electronic engineering, and others to all freshers. The change crops down after one month of classes. So, the students need to catch up with the departmental changes.

IIEST offers an under-graduation course in engineering and architecture, but you cannot change your department if you are admitted to the architecture department. It is better to choose for architecture department carefully as there will be no change after opting for it.

The weekends at IIEST Shibpur are different because there are not any classes. Everybody gets a much longer time to try to do the thing they enjoy doing.

A friend of mine used to spend the entire weekend playing Counter-strike or FIFA. Many others also catch up on sleep. 

Except for Monday lab report submissions or exams within the Monday morning slot, students usually play, chat, watch movies, enjoy or do whatever gives them satisfaction during the weekend. This spares the weekends that involve INSTRUO or REBECA because the whole student community revels in these two events during that point. Apart from these two festivals, there is no uniformity within the best things that one can do on weekends while studying at IIEST Shibpur. Students just do whatever they enjoy doing which they keep on doing on weekdays too, but just for a slightly longer period.

Both the colleges are best in providing quality education. The latest ranking of the IIEST is 19. Whereas, BITS, Goa is placed in the top 100. However, one should not judge the colleges based on rankings and branding. Here is more about each college in detail.

IIEST, Shibpur-

Admissions & Fee:

• The college has several programs in graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. The college accepts students based on the performance in JEE Main, GATE, CAT/XAT/MAT.

• The fee for B.Tech courses is 1.37 lakhs.

Placements:

• The college has good placement records. The highest and average salary of the students is 39.12 LPA and 9 LPA respectively.

• More than 100 companies provide offers to students in various fields with the highest salaries.

• Top companies visiting the campus are Snapdeal, Wipro, Intel, Infosys, Google, Microsoft, Cognizant, Foster Wheeler, Hindustan, Hyundai Motors, Accenture, Capgemini, etc.

Faculty and Other Facilities:

• The faculty at this college hold the highest degrees in their respective fields. Also, most of the professors are awarded several honors.

• The facilities at the college include sports facilities, wifi, hospitals, labs, library, hostels, cafes, etc.

• The library has over 200,000 books and is one of the oldest libraries.

BITS-Pilani, Goa-

Admissions & Fee:

• The college offers several programs under B.E, M.Sc, M.E, and Ph.D. It accepts students based on the GATE and BITSAT entrance exam performances.

• The annual fee for BE students is 3.99 lakhs.

Placements:

• The placement rate is 100%. The highest and average salaries of the students are 1.2 crore and 5 lakhs.

• Each year several companies visit the campus and recruit 100s of students.

• Some of the top companies visiting the campus are Oracle, Adobe, Amazon, Gen pact, IBM, Capgemini, eBay, Aditya Birla, Facebook, HDFC, Google, etc.

Faculty and Other Facilities:

• The campus has the best faculty with the utmost facilities.

• The facilities offered by the college are gyms, medical, library, games, wi-fi, stationery, bakery, post office, etc.

This is all about the IIEST and BITS-Pilani, Goa. Both offer wonderful careers with the best faculty. However, it depends on the individual to choose the college that best suits them based on several aspects.

The first thing that you should note is that IIEST offers a dual degree program. It's a 5-year M.Tech program and not the conventional 4-year program.

• Be clear of what your goals are and choose your friend circle according to it. For Example, if you love programming then find a senior who is doing coding and learn from his experience.
• Make it clear in your mind that CGPA matters the most. It is not easy to score marks in Shibpur and hence you have to study a lot.
• Be a team player. There are so many societies in the college and you SHOULD join them. This would make you aware of what's happening around you, help you build connections.
• Don't be worried about Ragging, It doesn't exist.
• Studies are not that easy and lectures are sometimes boring but you have to self-study and also manage time for honing your skills.
• Shibpur is not as famous across the nation as it is in West Bengal.
• It's the 2nd oldest college in the nation and hence has a vast alumni network.
• Upon becoming IIEST, the vibes in the college would change completely. There would be more budget for everything and confidence fo student would also increase. The quality of education would increase
• Placement opportunities at IIEST are not that great but the situation should improve in the near future. 

Don't lose focus, try to stay motivated and find like-minded people.
