Are married students allowed to stay with their spouses at IIM Kozhikode? If not, then can they live outside the campus?

Married accommodation is not readily available on campus, but on request, IIMK can facilitate locating suitable accommodation for students, in proximate areas.

My sister's batch had 2 married students. The institute assigned them an extra room for spouses in the women's hostel. If your roommates are okay with it, then your spouse can visit you for a few days.

Outside facilities are also available for spouses' accommodation. But then the transport expenses will have to be taken care of.

You have a very good chance of converting to IIM K, according to past wait-list movement data. The first movement will make the issue much apparent. You can continue to have faith in this one.

Why do people from Kozhikode prefer Mangalore for education despite having IIM and NIT?

AS
Ayush Sehgal Posted On : November 29th, 2022
Student

Yes, despite having IIM and NIT, Kozhikode residents prefer Mangalore for education. That could be due to Mangalore's studious-yet-stress-free environment.

That could be due to Mangalore's studious-yet-stress-free environment. People in Mangalore differ from the nerds at IIM, IIT, or NIT who are always studying. There's also a disciplined approach to life there. They eat when they need to, sleep when they are required to, study when they have to, and have fun when it is possible. Unlike the IIM nerds, who have no concept of fun or sleep and keep on studying even while doing other stuff.

To get into IIM or NIT, you must work extremely hard, as nearly 60% of the brightest students in India aspire to attend IIM/NIT. As a result, there is intense competition. The exam is entirely merit-based (in addition, seat reservations are aplenty).

Sir, today IIM Kozhikode released the second list and as per that the movement of EWS stands 0. Does there still stand any chance to get a convert at WL 26 under EWS?

The trend has it that the waitlist movement for IIM Kozhikode can go till 100 so there are healthy chances of conversion at WL 26. Most of the IIMs and other B-Schools that par with or better than IIM K have not released their merit lists. Once that is done, the waitlist movement is supposed to gain momentum. You can expect 0-5 movement in the next few lists but hang tight. 26 is a convertible waitlist number.

Do North Indians have a problem in adjusting with food at IIM Kozhikode?

AK
Amrit Kushagra Posted On : May 10th, 2023
Studied at IIM Kozhikode

Actually not, but it all depends and it changes from person to person. The food in IIM Kozhikode (in fact in any of the IIMs) is not only based on South Indian cuisine but the college mess includes all kinds of continental cuisines, it keeps changing and the students are the ones who change and decide the menu.

Apart from this IIM-K (all IIMs) have canteens on campus where students can have whatever they want and can choose from a wide range of varieties.

So, there won’t be any problem in adjusting and don’t worry much about the food if you got a call from IIM-K. Cheers!

Will IIM Bangalore still survive if Bangalore ceases to be a liveable city as suggested by numerous reports? Should I prefer IIM Kozhikode over it, as the future of Bangalore looks bleak?

MC

Don’t choose the institute based on the city. As you will barely get to go out of the campus because of the academic loads in both the colleges.

IIM Bangalore offers the best student exchange programs. This college has helped a lot of students in building their careers. Most of the alumni of IIM Bangalore are settled abroad. So, it is definitely a good option for your studies. Also, it will take over 10 years for Bangalore to be completely unlivable. So, you don’t need to worry about that for the duration of your course.

However, if you want a pollution-free campus then IIM Kozhikode will be a better choice for you. The hostel rooms of this college are very good along with food. You will find a lot of learning opportunities over there.

Choose according to your convenience and don’t take City as a major parameter for your decision.

What is the cost of living in Kozhikode, India for students attending the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)?

SB
Susmita Banerjee Posted On : May 6th, 2023
Finance & Marketing at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

The cost can be broken into two parts:

  1. The cost of the MBA program is INR 2250,000/-. This fee covers the delivery of the program, books, and other teaching materials, living in a hostel on campus, and using all campus services like the library. Mess/Canteen fees would be extra and depend on how often they were used.
  2. The above fees also cover the costs of the International Immersion module's program and planning. Travel and lodging costs for the foreign immersion will be extra, and the students will have to pay for them on their own.
  3. Hostel Fee: The Institute has 19 well-designed dorms that can hold about 1400 students. Both boys and girls pay INR 1.50 lakhs per year for IIM Kozhikode Hostel fees. There are rooms for both one person and two people. It depends on your needs. Also, you don't have to stay in a hostel. Whether you do or not is completely up to you.

Which is better, XLRI or IIMK?

RW
Ravish Wadwa Posted On : June 14th, 2021
Director at ReGraduate | MBA, FMS Delhi

It is a bit naïve to compare XLRI to IIMK. Among the two, XLRI is definitely a better choice, being one of the oldest Business Schools in the country.

The points below provide a brief overview of both the institutes and some valid highlights to support the choice.

  • XLRI is a lot more established institute than IIMK, with a lot of experience over time.
  • For most MBA aspirants, XLRI is the first choice among the two. It is a fact that XLRI is not very far in ranking and facilities from institutes like IIM A, B, C, ISB, FMS, etc.
  • Considering the placements in both institutes, XLRI offers an average salary of Rs. 20.1 LPA to students whereas, for IIM K, the average package is Rs. 17.8 LPA.
  • The roles offered in XLRI and the quality of recruiting companies visiting XLRI are better than those in IIM K.
  • The batch size of XLRI is 180 students, whereas the batch size of IIM K is 382 students. So, it is quite obvious that it has an impact on placement as a smaller batch has greater chances of getting placed than a larger batch.
  • XLRI is considered the best institute in India for doing an MBA in HR. So, students interested in HR can blindly opt for the institute.

Therefore, students having an XLRI interview conversion should definitely go for it, having got a chance in such an excellent institute.

How do I differentiate between IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode

NT
Nivedita Trivedi Posted On : June 20th, 2023
Lives in Indore

Both universities were founded around the same time (1996) and are in the same league in terms of placements, exposure, and alumni base, among other things.

Nonetheless, IIM Kozhikode has an advantage over IIM Indore for one reason only - Size of the batch

  • If we add the IPM batch, IIM Indore has a batch size of 650 students, whereas Kozhikode has a batch size of around 400 students.
  • A larger batch size allows you to interact with people from various backgrounds, but this might be a difficulty during placement season and other co-curricular activities.

During the placement season, student competition would be fierce. Assume a company has opted to hire only one student, and the competition at IIM Indore is 50% higher due to the larger batch size. So, in comparison to Indore, you have a better probability of getting into your dream firm in Kozhikode.

It is not just restricted to Placement season, but also to club and committee events. If you wish to join the placement committee or the Finance club, it will be more difficult to do so in Indore than in Kozhikode. Co-curricular activities are very beneficial during your final placement interview.

IIM Kozhikode has an advantage over IIM Indore because of just one essential element. Both IIM-B PGDM and ISB MBA are good programs. Your choice relies on your career goals and preferences. ISB offers a shorter, industry-focused program. IIM-B is highly academic and research-focused.
