How is it like being at FMS Delhi? Would you trade your life with someone studying in top IIMs A B or C?

GY
Gaurav Yadav Posted On : January 10th, 2023
MBA in Marketing, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2002)

In comparison to the IIMs, FMS retains the advantages of small batch size and a fee structure that is relatively low. The small batch size simplifies placements significantly. With the exception of a few foreign consultancies, most of the top companies that visit the IIMs also visit FMS. Despite all of the university's bureaucracy, etc., there is a well-established alumni network that still ensures that things work out for the current batches.

Because of the small batch size, people are extremely competitive. This was in stark contrast to what you hear about the IIMs. Even though they have competition but they maintain some semblance of sanity due to the large batch. FMS can be difficult to manage at times, both in obvious behaviours and subtle actions by people you study with.

The culture at FMS is influenced by the culture of Delhi. In comparison, IIMs are unquestionably more cosmopolitan. Unless you have prior exposure, adjusting to a new environment can be difficult for people from very different cultures, such as the South or East. Otherwise, you'll have to learn to adjust the hard way. But it's still worth the effort. The people you meet in both locations are of the highest calibre. It is up to you to make the best of the situation.

Even if given the chance, there's no way one would like to trade places with the IIMs.

How is life in and around for a student in IIM Bangalore?

AM
Ankit Malik Posted On : December 21st, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur

A student's life in IIM Bangalore is a blend of stress and fun. The first 2 semesters are quite tough since the curriculum here is very extensive. But you don’t have to give up on this pressure and by 3rd term, you will see yourself adapting to it. Also, the initial terms are when you make the best friends of your life. Your company will define how the following two years will shape you into a new person.

To maintain rigor the institute organized frequent quizzes and group projects. You are required to multitask and also prioritize your tasks. This will continue for 5-6 courses. You will get enough relaxation through fests, and breaks during summer and final placements.

Ultimately what will matter for an IIM Bangalore student is their final grade and what memories they created within the campus in 2 years.

How important are club memberships in IIM, Bangalore?

GR
Gargi Roy Posted On : July 31st, 2021
IIM Bangalore (2018)

I have a few friends from IIM Bangalore and they were able to give some information regarding the clubs at the institute.

  • It is not easy to be selected into one of the clubs. This is specifically in regards to the top 7-8 clubs. You are required to go through a selection process of multiple rounds which are structured by the senior coordinators (SCs) of the club. You need to perform tasks and have to qualify for several interview rounds to get selected for the membership of the clubs. The selection would not be just about your ability and credentials. It will also judge how suitable you are for the culture of the club. The competition for selections is quite high as many students compete against each other to get into the clubs and many don’t care at all about them.
  • There can be a certain amount of benefit for you if you join one of the clubs in regards to placements. You can include the activities you participated in, in your resume. You can also get help before and during the placement process begins for your batch.
  • It takes an immense amount of hard work in being part of an active club. You would have to attend meetings for hours, roam around the campus any time of the day to get things done, and so on. But you would also have this group of friends from various backgrounds and communities. You surely can learn a lot by being part of the events which are organized by the Clubs.

One of my friends was a part of the Drama Club and his experience was pretty good. Hope this helps.

No, any outsider cannot enter the campus of IIM Bangalore easily. There are certain restrictions that need to be followed inside the campus by everyone. The points below give a brief overview of the rules and regulations that are strictly followed inside the campus of IIM Bangalore.

  • A student, a professor, or an alumnus can enter and leave the campus of IIM Bangalore freely. The only way an outsider can enter the campus is as an invited guest by some professor or student.
  • During cultural events, fests, and seminars, the security at IIM Bangalore is relaxed compared to normal days. But, outsiders need at least valid proof of participation even during those days.
  • There are students who get involved in activities like climbing the barbed fence to enter the campus, and eventually get punished if caught.
  • Although the campus of IIM Bangalore is quite strict for outsiders, it should not affect the motivation of the student to be a part of the institute someday. Every student, who wants to seek motivation to visit the institute, should keep the above aspects in mind while making their visit.

These are some of the key highlights about the strictness of security inside the campus of IIM Bangalore, which is quite relaxed for students but difficult for strangers to pay a visit to.
