New Delhi: The XLRI Jamshedpur recently concluded the Fr Quinn Enright Memorial Cricket Tournament 2024. This cricket event was held from June 1, 2024 to June 9, 2024. It was named in honour of the institution's esteemed Founding Director, Fr Quinn Enright. The cricket tournament was a significant part of XLRI's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. The event highlighted the institution's dedication to the holistic development of its students.
Aim of the Cricket Tournament 2024
The XLRI Jamshedpur’s Fr Quinn Enright Memorial Cricket Tournament was a distinctive tennis ball cricket event which was aimed at raising funds for charitable causes. The funds raised from the tournament will be donated by XLRI to support those in need, reinforcing the institution's commitment to social responsibility.
What are the Teams that Participated?
Six teams participated in the tournament. Those are - XL Tigers (XLRI Faculty & Staff), Loyola Alumni Association, XL Hunters (XLRI FPM & EFPM Students), GMP Avengers (XLRI PGDM-GM Students), DTDC Warriors & KFMS (XLRI Support Staff). The final match witnessed a gripping showdown between XL Tigers and the Loyola Alumni Association, with the latter emerging victorious on the last ball of the match.
Final Match Statistics
In the final match, XL Tigers opted to bat first, scoring 128 runs for 10 wickets in 15 overs. Prashant played a crucial innings of 64 runs. However, the Loyola Alumni Association successfully chased down the target of 129 scores & clinched victory on the last ball. Rochak Kumar, an alumni bowler, was declared the Man of the Match for his impressive figures of 3 for 22 in three overs.
Ensuring Fair Play & Integrity
The tournament's format had two pools & each team played two league matches. Fair play was ensured by professional umpires & strict adherence to rules was emphasized. It reflected the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. The event not only showcased thrilling cricket matches but also highlighted the values of community engagement and philanthropy, embodying XLRI's ethos.
