VITEEE 2026 was conducted in two daily shifts across six days, so paper difficulty was not identical for every candidate. To remove that disadvantage, VIT applies equipercentile equating, a statistical normalisation method. Two candidates with the same percentile across different shifts are treated as equivalent in the merit list, even if their raw marks differ slightly.
This means a 420 raw score in a tougher shift can be ranked higher than a 430 raw score in an easier shift after normalisation. Candidates should not panic if their raw score looks lower than peers from a different day.

Yes, most likely by 20 to 40 marks. VITEEE 2026 reintroduced negative marking after a two-year gap. The new pattern awards +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong answer, taking the total to 500 marks. Students who relied on guessing in earlier years lost marks this time, so the rank-vs-marks ladder is expected to shift. Based on shift-wise paper analysis, good attempts for high scorers were around 100 to 110 questions, fetching 360 to 430 marks at 90 to 95% accuracy.

The VITEEE 2026 entrance exam concluded today, May 3, 2026, after the final Shift 2 ended at 5:00 PM. The exam ran from April 28 to May 3, 2026 in two daily shifts across 130 cities in India and 9 cities abroad. Around 2.5 lakh candidates appeared for B.Tech admissions to four VIT campuses.
