University of Allahabad Begins Ph.D Admission 2025; Apply Before October 22

The University of Allahabad has opened the online registration for Ph.D. admissions for the academic session 2025-26. More than 873 seats are available, across 43 disciplines, in accordance with the UGC Regulations 2022.

Admission to the program is merit-based via merit-based UGC/CSIR-NET conducted by NTA, and the Research Aptitude Test (RAT). Applicants who qualify eligibility criteria will be considered, with a minimum applicant to seat ratio of 2:1 for shortlisting.

The Ph.D. admission portal will be live from September 25 to October 22, 2025. The University has clarified that no candidate will be considered without completing the online registration.

University of Allahabad Ph.D. Admission 2025 Eligibility Criteria

• Master’s degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of:
• 55% marks for General category
• 50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD
• A valid UGC-NET/CSIR-NET score conducted by NTA (June 2024, Dec 2024, or June 2025)
• Candidates must confirm subject-wise eligibility before they apply.
• An exemption from NET is available for:

1. Permanent Teachers of AU/colleges/constituent colleges
2. Officers of the Armed Forces (in the case of Defence & Strategic Studies)
3. Applicants from Overseas (application is done thought the International Candidate Advisor
4. Eligible part time applicants with not less than 5 years of professional experience

• Candidates will be classified in the following categories:

1. Group A: Qualified for JRF and Assistant Professor
2. Group B: Qualified for Assistant Professor (NET) or for Ph.D. admission only
3. Group C: Exempted candidates

• All candidates must enroll through the University of Allahabad Ph.D. admission online portal as only registered applicants will be short-listed.
• The short-listing ratio will be 2 : 1 (twice the number of seats available) by reservation norms.
• For Group B, UGC/CSIR-NET will consider validity of one year (June 2024 – June 2025 exams).
• Candidates exempted from the research aptitude test will be evaluated only through the Research Aptitude Test.

Final merit list will be based on the above criteria and the exempted applicants (Group C) will not require NTA scores but must appear for Research Aptitude Test in respective departments.
