The event emphasized on the need to implement constitutional values at the societal level and the challenges that come with it.
New Delhi: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) organised an event celebrating ‘Constitution Day’ on November 26, 2023. Th event was organised by Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chair and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Studies Centre at the Sant Dnyaneshwar Auditorium.
The Chief Guest of the ‘Constitution Day’ celebration at SPPU was Dr Sukhdev Thorat, former Chairman of UGC. He discussed the importance of adhering to the values outlined in the constitution. He said that societal actions often diverge from democratic principles creating a neccessity for commitment towards constitutional values. .
Dr Thorat picked up Dr Ambedkar’s theory of identifying the ten challenges to embracing democracy and equality in the societal level.
The ceremony began with eminent dignitaries like Dr Parag Kalkar, VC and Dr Vijay Khare, In-Charge Registrar, SPPU paying their floral tributes to the Constitution monument at SPPU.
Dr Kalkar stressed on the importance of disseminating constitutional values during the ogoing times. He announced how the university has planned on achieving this goal in the upcoming session.
The event was attended by Staffs, Teachers, Students, Research Scholars of SPPU who read the Preamble to the Constitution collectively. An exhibition of informative posters on the Constitution was organised by NCC. The exhibition was inaugurated and moderated by Dr Manohar Jadhav, Head of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Adhyasana.
