New Delhi: The School of Law at RV University has received approval from the Bar Council of India (BCI). The five-year integrated BA LLB and BBA LLB curricula have also acquired BCI recognition, in addition to the law school at RV University.
The School of Law (SoL) degree programmes will begin in August 2023, making it RVU's sixth total school.
Professor YSR Murthy, dean of the law school and vice chancellor of RVU, expressed his excitement at the honour by saying, "We are excited to launch the School of Law at RVU, which will join the existing five schools to deepen our commitment to interdisciplinarity."
"Through the School of Law, we seek to cultivate future solicitors who will uphold the principles of justice, integrity, and social responsibility," the dean stated. The opportunity to study the relationship between law, business, economics, technology, and public policy will be a special one for our students.
He further continued that, "Our law students will have the privilege of learning from and being inspired by a world-class faculty drawn from prestigious schools all over the world.We are dedicated to giving our students priceless learning experiences through strategic partnerships with corporate and law firms, industry partners, banking and financial institutions, think tanks, and NGOs.”
Professor (Dr.) K. Chockalingam is a Professor Emeritus at the School of Law. He is regarded as the founder of Indian criminology and victimology as well as a former vice president of the World Society of Victimology. Justice BN Srikrishna is a former judge of the Supreme Court of India and a former chief justice of the Kerala High Court.
The faculty includes eminent academics from Jindal Global Law School, NLSIU, WBNUJS, RGNUL, University of London, Emory University, University of Warwick, SOAS, Geneva Academy, and Central European University who have won Fulbright, British Chevening, Erasmus Mundus, and Sir Ratan Tata post-doctoral Fellowships. It also includes renowned legal practitioners and business professionals. With a focus on hands-on learning, students will have access to a dynamic learning environment that promotes critical thinking, research competence, and practical legal abilities.
According to a formal statement, the School of Law at RVU aims to provide a variety of courses that will provide students the knowledge, abilities, and moral principles they need to succeed in the legal industry. A five-year integrated B.A. LLB (Hons) or BBA LLB (Hons), LLM, or PhD programmes are available to students.
Admissions are now being accepted for undergraduate, graduate, and full-time/part-time PhD programmes. Candidates can submit their applications online at admissions.rvu.edu.in, which is the university's website.
Admission to the undergraduate programme is based on scores from the RVSAT entrance exam, as well as any legitimate CLAT, LSAT, or CUET scores. The RVU School of Law created 75 merit scholarships in its first year alone, with awards ranging from 25% to 100% for deserving candidates.
RV University and International partnership, dual-degree programme
Additionally, RV University's School of Leadership has created two collaborative programmes in collaboration with Seattle University in the USA.
Students will have the option to pursue the LLM track, a dual-degree curriculum, under the first programme. Within five years, students who register in RV University's five-year integrated law course will have the opportunity to earn both an undergraduate law degree from RV University and an LLM from Seattle School of Law in the area of specialisation of their choice.
The second curriculum offers the opportunity for an LLM student to enrol and complete a second LLM at Seattle University. Seattle University will provide 50% tuition scholarships to five students. The student can earn two LLM degrees after completing two years from Seattle University and RV University.
RVU has also established worldwide partnerships with more than 50 universities in the US, UK, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Additionally, it has more than 50 national partnerships, including those with SOCHARA, the Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM), Human Rights Alert, HelpAge India, SICHREM, and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), to mention a few.
