Pondicherry University To Appoint New VC, K Tharanikkarasu Take Charge As VC In-Charge

New Delhi: As per the latest updates, the Senior Director of Pondicherry University, K Tharanikkarasu, has taken the charge of vice-chancellor (VC in-charge) after Former VC Gurmeet Singh after his extended tenure ended on November 23, 2023.

Tharanikkarasu held the Head of the Chemistry Department position at Pondicherry University from 2015 to 2018. Additionally, he took on the responsibilities of Registrar (i/c) for about 9 months and Controller of Examination (i/c) for 1 year and 8 months within this timeframe.

Gurmeet Singh started his tenure on November 29, 2017. He is well known for his distinguished background in academic leadership and expertise in corrosion science and innovative materials on a global scale. He thanked the statutory officers, faculty, staff, students, and all involved parties for their unwavering support throughout his tenure as vice-chancellor.

Panel Set Up to Appoint New Vice Chancellor

Pondicherry University has initiated the selection process for its new VC. During its meeting on November 22, the university's executive council put forth two nominees to form the search panel for the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor, adhering to the guidelines outlined in the Pondicherry University Act and Statutes.

The university announced that an advertisement inviting applications for the vacant Vice-Chancellor position will be published shortly. In 2022, Pondicherry University achieved the 68th rank in the National Institution Ranking Framework.
