JEE Main Registration 2026: NTA to Use CBSE Class 11 Registration Numbers to Avoid Exam Dates Clash

NTA has introduced a major change in JEE Main examination, where JEE Main aspirants will be required to share their CBSE class 11th registration numbers during the JEE Main registration process. The change has been introduced by NTA to avoid clash of CBSE and JEE Main exam dates.

NTA released the JEE Main tentative schedule on the official website, based on which the JEE Main exams are scheduled from 1 April to 10 April 2026. On the other hand, CBSE has also released its final datesheet for class 12th on 30 October, and the exams are scheduled from 17 February to 9 April.

To avoid clash between CBSE class 12 and JEE Main exam dates, CBSE has directed all affiliated schools to share CBSE class 11th registration numbers of candidates appearing for JEE Main 2026 with NTA. During the JEE Main registration and application process, students will also be required to fill out their CBSE registration numbers.

Registration for JEE Main 2026 began on 31 October 2026 for JEE Main Session 1 and will last till 27 November 2025. For JEE Main Session 2, the registration process is expected to begin in the last week of January 2026.

JEE Main Important Dates

NTA has published the tentative dates for JEE Main 2026 on the official website. As per the JEE Main tentative schedule, registration for JEE Main session 1 is open till 27 November 2026, and the examination is scheduled from 21 to 30 January 2026.

JEE Main session 2 registration is likely to begin in the last week of January 2026. The examination is scheduled from 1 April to 10 April 2026.

NTA to Schedule JEE Main Using CBSE Registration Numbers

CBSE issues unique registration numbers to candidates while enrolling candidates for class 11th. NTA will use these registration numbers to schedule JEE Main examination for candidates appearing for the CBSE class 12 examination as p[er the JEE Main latest news.

CBSE has also made efforts to avoid exam date clashes and said “sufficient gap has been given between two subjects while preparing the 2026 date sheet. The date of conduct of entrance examinations meant for the students of Class XII have been taken into consideration, and efforts have been made to complete the examinations much before the entrance examinations. This will help the students in better time management for both the Board and entrance examinations.”
