NTA has clarified that no score normalisation was applied to the 565 candidates who appeared in the CUET PG 2026 rescheduled exams held on March 29 and 30 due to disruptions in Meghalaya and overseas centres. Absolute marks were used.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an official clarification on the rescheduled Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate Programmes (CUET PG) 2026 examination at exams.nta.nic.in. The notice was uploaded on June 14, 2026.
The clarification responds to queries raised on social media platforms. Concerns arose about certain CUET PG subjects held on multiple dates. Questions were also raised on the absence of score normalisation.
What Did NTA Announce?
The agency confirmed that 565 candidates appeared in the rescheduled examination. The reschedule took place on March 29 and March 30, 2026. These candidates could not appear earlier due to centre disruptions in Meghalaya and at overseas examination venues.
NTA stated that absolute marks have been reported for every candidate. No score has been normalised in either the main or rescheduled cycle.
Which Subjects Were Affected by the Reschedule?
The clarification highlighted two subjects with sharp candidate volume gaps. The agency said normalisation across these groups would be statistically meaningless. The figures cited by NTA appear below.
| Subject | Main Examination Candidates | Rescheduled Candidates |
|---|---|---|
| English | 16,000 | 120 |
| Political Science | 26,000 | 100 |
The wide volume gap makes statistical normalisation unreliable for comparison. A small candidate pool cannot be fairly scaled against a large one.
How Were Scores Calculated for Candidates?
NTA followed its standard policy of reporting absolute marks per subject. Candidates were scored on their actual test performance only. The same rule applied to both batches without exception.
No statistical normalisation formula was used between the two groups. Results for all candidates were declared together on this basis.
CUET PG 2026 Important Dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Main Examination Window | March 6 to March 27, 2026 |
| Rescheduled Examination | March 29 and March 30, 2026 |
| Result Declaration | April 24, 2026 |

CUET PG scores drive postgraduate admissions at central universities nationwide. A scoring dispute at this scale can unsettle cutoff calculations. NTA's clarification removes uncertainty for the April 2026 results cycle.
