NIT Trichy and Illinois Tech have inked an agreement to introduce a collaborative degree initiative in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, in accordance with the New Education Policy.

New Delhi: National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy) and Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) have entered into an agreement to offer a joint degree program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in accordance with the New Education Policy. 

Mallik Sundharam, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at Illinois Tech, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, stating that their excitement is palpable as they join forces with NIT Trichy, a symbol of educational excellence in India. This partnership signifies a major step in delivering top-tier education to every aspiring individual in India. 

The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence program aims to provide learning opportunities for those looking to change or advance their careers, offering accessible and high-quality education, Sundharam said. 

Sundharam remarked that this partnership underscores the commitment to 'Glocalization,' blending global experiential learning pedagogy with local expertise to address the distinct needs of learners and employers in India. Commencing in Fall 2024, the joint degree program provides students a gateway to a field with surging demand and promising career prospects.

Dr. G. Aghila, Director of NIT Trichy, conveyed her excitement about the collaboration, stating that collaborating with Illinois Tech brings new opportunities for the students and faculty, marking a significant stride in internationalizing their curriculum and research endeavors. It will also foster academic and collaborative research activities between the two institutions.

The agreement outlines several crucial initiatives, such as credit-bearing student exchanges, joint degree programs, priority admissions with scholarships, academic research collaborations, and mobility for both faculty and students. This partnership aligns with the recent guidelines introduced by the National Education Policy (NEP), permitting foreign universities to provide degree programs in India.
