NIT Trichy Begins PhD Admission 2026

National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli has started the admission process for its PhD Programme for the January 2026 session. Candidates looking to pursue full-time or part-time research across engineering, sciences, management, and humanities streams can now submit their applications online.

The institute will conduct the written test and interview from January 6 to January 8, 2026, and applicants must ensure that both the application and fee payment are completed by December 10, 2025.

NIT Trichy PhD Admission 2026 Eligibility Criteria

NIT Trichy has outlined the eligibility requirements for its PhD admission 2026 based on academic performance and category norms. Candidates from the GEN, GEN-EWS, and OBC-NCL categories must have secured at least 60% or 6.5 CGPA in both UG and PG degrees, while applicants from SC, ST, and PwD categories need a minimum of 55% or 6.0 CGPA.

The brochure also specifies that a valid GATE or NET score is mandatory for HTRA applicants in Sciences, Management, and Humanities & Social Sciences. However, this requirement is waived for Engineering candidates holding an M.Tech degree, and is not needed for those applying under Non-Stipendiary or Part-Time categories.

NIT Trichy has also noted that certain departments may prescribe additional criteria based on their specific academic requirements.

Application Process

Applicants must submit their PhD application exclusively through nittadm.samarth.edu.in and can choose up to three departments based on their eligibility. The application fee is ₹1000 per department for GEN, GEN-EWS, and OBC-NCL categories, while SC, ST, and PwD candidates must pay ₹500 per department.

Candidates are also required to upload all relevant documents, including academic marksheets, certificates, photograph, signature, category proof, and the SOP or research proposal as applicable.
