NIT Rourkela PhD admission 2024-25

NIT Rourkela has released a scrutinised result of provisionally shortlisted candidates to attend the selection process for admission to PhD program for the Spring (January) Semester of the 2024-25 academic year. The selected candidates have to attend the interview on December 9 and 10, 2024.

NIT Rourkela PhD Admission: Eligibility Criteria

The minimum qualification for admission to PhD programs in Engineering, Science, Planning & Architecture, Management, and Humanities & Social Sciences are as follows

  • ME/M.Tech/M.Sc Engg./M.Pharm/M.Arch/M.Plan/M.Des in the appropriate discipline with at least a 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks or 1st class, both in BE/B.Tech/BSc Engg./MSc/BPharm/MCA/BArch/BDes or equivalent, and ME/MTech/MScEngg/MPharm/MArch/MPlan/MDes from recognized Technical Institute or University.
  • BE/BTech/BSc Engg./MSc/BPharm/MCA/BArch/BDes or such other equivalent qualification in the relevant discipline with CGPA 7.0 or 65% marks
  • Basic Sciences M.Sc CGPA 7.0 or 65% marks in a relevant discipline. For applicants with a valid GATE/NET/GPAT or equivalent score, the requirement may be relaxed by a maximum of 0.5 CGPA or 5% marks.

Further, candidates having the following qualifications can also apply for PhD in Management and Humanities & Social Sciences.

  • M.Com/MBA/M.Sc/MA in Humanities and Social Sciences / Management / B.Tech with 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks or 1st class for PhD in Management and Humanities and Social Sciences only.

Additional criteria

  • Minimum CGPA 6.5 or 60% marks or 1st class in his/her career, otherwise. Admission to the PhD program is, however, at the discretion of the Departmental Research Committee (DRC) for just one former achievement out of 10th, +2, BA, BSc, BCom, Diploma, etc. (except qualifying degree) marks < 60% or CGPA < 6.5 when the candidate has qualified in GATE/NET/GPAT or other national-level fellowship tests like DST-INSPIRE, or has joined as JRF/SRF in any research project.
  • For reserved category students (PWD/SC/ST), 0.5 CGPA or 5% relaxations will be granted at +2.
  • Minimum qualification for candidates into an institution for engineering and science disciplines (besides life sciences)-specific conditions.
