NIT Rourkela Awards Degrees to 1,988 Students at 21st Convocation

New Delhi: The National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) conferred degrees on 1,988 graduate students during its 21st convocation. Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad, Chairman-Cum-Managing Director of Coal India Limited attended the event as chief guest.

Out of the total students, there were 457 female and 1531 male candidates who attended the convocation and received their degrees. The degrees were awarded to 17 BArch, 961 BTech, 38 dual degree BTech and MTech, 54 integrated MSc, 168 MSc, 520 MTech, 3 MTech (by research), 21 MA, 39 MBA, and 167 PhD students.

Speaking on this occasion, Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad, Chairman-Cum-Managing Director of Coal India Limited said, “As many as 173 girl students in Bachelor's programs, 228 in Master's programs, and 56 in PhD programs graduated this year”.

“It is also notable that the female-to-male ratio of the Institute has significantly increased from 1:6 to 1:4 in recent years. This year, 82 international students are graduating, comprising 66 males and 16 females”, he added.

In addition to degrees, a total of eight students obtained the Institute Gold Medal (10 Grams of 22k gold), and five were awarded the Endowment Gold Medal. 59 students received the Branch Topper Medalist (Silver Medalist) honour. One student received an INR 1,00,000 endowment prize for being the Best Student Research Scholar in 2023.

Congratulating the students, Polavarapu Mallikarjuna Prasad said, “The growing Indian economy promises a brighter future for young engineers. Globalization means additional job opportunities. Because of its vast and highly talented Human Resources, India has become a favourite destination for many MNCs to set up their production lines in the country. The future is bright and you are part of that future in India”.
