Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for NIT Manipur’s PhD admission varies by department, but the core criteria remain similar across programmes. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks from a recognized institute, and GATE or NET qualified candidates are given preference, depending on the department’s requirements.
In some engineering fields, candidates with a strong academic record at the Bachelor’s level may also be considered. Additionally, SC, ST, OBC(NCL), and PWD candidates receive a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA or 5% in the qualifying examination.
Selection Process
The selection process at NIT Manipur involves a few key steps. Candidates who do not hold GATE or NET qualifications must appear for both the offline written test and the interview, while those who are GATE or NET qualified will only attend the interview.
All shortlisted applicants must carry a valid ID proof such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, or Driving Licence. Since the institute does not issue separate admit cards, candidates are required to report at the venue 30 minutes before the test or interview.
Candidates must keep a few important instructions in mind while applying for the PhD programme. Sponsored applicants are required to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at the time of application.
The fee structure includes ₹500 for General, OBC, and EWS candidates, and ₹250 for SC, ST, and PWD candidates, payable only through online or digital modes.
During admission, selected candidates must also sign a bond stating that they will refund 50% of the fellowship amount if they are unable to complete the programme. All further updates and notifications will be published exclusively on the official NIT Manipur website.
