New Delhi: Amid growing concerns and the need to adhere to strict safety measures due to the Nipah virus outbreak, NIT Calicut has taken decisive steps to prioritize health and student and staff well-being by postponing all exams originally scheduled for next week.
In addition to this, NIT Calicut has decided to move all classes online amid restrictions related to Nipah by the district administration. The decision comes after a group of students complained to the district collector that restrictions were not being followed on campus.
Nevertheless, the institution's authorities have reversed their initial decision to conduct examinations and classes on Sundays. Additionally, they have issued a set of guidelines for both students and staff. Those residing in containment zones are instructed not to access the campus until they receive authorization from the district administration.
Despite the majority of students residing on campus, some have been instructed to participate in online classes and refrain from visiting the campus until the restrictions are lifted. The campus now enforces mandatory mask-wearing, social distancing, and hand hygiene practices.
Additionally, students are advised against venturing beyond the campus premises. NIT Calicut places the safety of its community at the forefront of its priorities. By postponing exams, the institution aims to minimize physical gatherings on campus and mitigate the potential transmission of the virus among students and faculty.
Although these developments present challenges to the academic calendar, NIT Calicut is committed to ensuring that its students' educational needs are met without compromising safety. The institute is actively exploring alternative assessment methods and remote learning options to ensure uninterrupted academic progress during these trying times.
NIT Calicut will continue to closely monitor the evolving situation and collaborate with health authorities to assess the safety of resuming regular campus activities. Timely updates regarding examination rescheduling and the return to normalcy will be communicated to NIT Calicut community.
The government is diligently tracking the locations of mobile towers to trace the source and location of infections. In these uncertain times, NIT Calicut remains steadfastly focused on safeguarding the health and academic well-being of its students while contributing to the collective effort to contain the spread of the Nipah Virus.
