IITs continue to dominate in NIRF Rankings 2025 in engineering category as IIT Madras ranks first for the tenth year in a row, followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay in second and third place, respectively.
The Ministry of Education (MoE), together with the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), released the NIRF Ranking 2025 on September 4, 2025. According to the latest rankings for engineering colleges in India, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay hold the top three spots. During the press conference while announcing the rankings, officials stated that IIT Madras remains the top institution in both overall and engineering category in the country for another year.
The NIRF, established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in 2015, evaluates educational institutions based on significant criteria like Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception. Since 2016, NIRF has been publishing rankings specific to disciplines, including engineering.

With the score of 88.72, IIT Madras has remained at the top position in the engineering category for ten consecutive years, as per NIRF Rankings 2025. In addition to the IITs, prestigious institutions like the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli and IIT (BHU) Varanasi have also made notable contributions by maintaining their previous year positions in the NIRF Engineering Rankings 2025.

The 2024 and 2025 NIRF trends for engineering colleges suggest that the IITs have continued their consistent monopoly in the top 10. Nonetheless, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Guwahati's rankings have switched places, with the former moving from 8 to 7 and the latter from 7 to 8.
