NID DAT 2027 Registration Begins; Check Last Date to Apply

The National Institute of Design (NID) has released the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) 2027 notification on its official admissions portal at admissions.nid.edu. The online application process began on September 10, 2026, for admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) programmes for the 2027–28 academic session.

Eligible candidates can submit the NID DAT 2027 application form until November 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM. NID will conduct the DAT Prelims examination on December 20, 2026. Candidates shortlisted through the Prelims will be eligible to appear for DAT Mains.

NID DAT 2027 Programmes

Admission through NID DAT 2027 is offered for the following design programmes:

• Bachelor of Design (B.Des)
• 5.5-Year Professional Education Master of Design (Integrated Pathway)
• Master of Design (M.Des)
• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Design

The application deadline for the PhD in Design programme is October 1, 2026, at 11:59 PM IST.

NID DAT 2027 Important Dates

Candidates should follow the official schedule carefully. All the timings mentioned below are in Indian Standard Time (IST).

NID DAT 2027 Application Correction Window

Candidates who need to correct information in their submitted forms can use the application correction facility from December 1, 2026, at 4 PM to December 3, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

Only the fields permitted by NID can be modified during this period. Candidates should carefully review their personal, academic, category and communication details before making the final submission.

NID DAT 2027 Admit Card

NID will release the DAT Prelims admit card on December 10, 2026, at 4 PM. Registered candidates will be able to download it from the official admissions portal using their login credentials.

The admit card will contain the candidate’s roll number, examination centre, reporting time and exam-day instructions. Candidates must verify all the information printed on it and report any discrepancy through the prescribed channel.

NID DAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility requirements vary for the B.Des and M.Des programmes. Applicants must meet the prescribed academic and age-related requirements for their selected programme.

Eligibility for the B.Des Programme

• Candidates must have passed or be appearing for the Class 12 examination from a recognised board.
• Applicants from Science, Commerce and Arts streams can apply.
• The prescribed age requirements must be satisfied according to the candidate’s category.
• Reserved-category candidates will receive age relaxation according to the applicable admission rules.

Eligibility for the M.Des Programme

Candidates must possess any one of the following qualifications:

• A four-year bachelor’s degree in any specialisation from a recognised institution.
• A four-year full-time diploma in Design, Fine Arts, Applied Arts or Architecture.
• A three-year bachelor’s degree in any specialisation, subject to the completion requirements specified by NID.

Final-year candidates may apply provided they complete all the required examinations within the deadline prescribed in the official admission handbook.

NID DAT 2027 Application Fee

The application fee varies according to the candidate’s category. It must be paid online while submitting the application form.

NID DAT 2027 Exam Pattern

The NID DAT selection process consists of two stages:

• DAT Prelims
• DAT Mains

The DAT Prelims, scheduled for December 20, 2026, will assess areas such as visual reasoning, observation, imagination, creativity and design awareness.

The DAT Prelims result will be announced on March 16, 2027, at 4 PM. Only candidates shortlisted in the preliminary examination will be allowed to participate in the DAT Mains. The detailed schedule for DAT Mains will be announced separately.

How to Apply for NID DAT 2027?

Candidates can complete the NID DAT registration process by following these steps:

1. Visit the official NID admissions portal at admissions.nid.edu.
2. Open the NID DAT 2027 registration link.
3. Register using a valid email address and mobile number.
4. Log in and enter the required personal, academic and communication details.
5. Upload the photograph, signature and applicable category certificates.
6. Pay the prescribed application fee online.
7. Submit the application form before November 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
8. Download and retain the confirmation page for future reference.

Candidates are advised to complete the registration process well before the deadline and use the correction window, if necessary, between December 1 and December 3, 2026.

2. Confirm the prescribed eligibility requirements for the B.Des or M.Des programme before applying.
3. Keep scanned copies of the required documents, photograph, signature and category certificate, if applicable, ready in the prescribed format.
4. Check the category-wise application fee and keep a valid online payment method ready. The fee for General, General-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates is Rs 3,000.
5. Make corrections to the submitted form, if required, between December 1, 2026 (4 PM) and December 3, 2026 (11:59 PM).
6. Download the DAT Prelims admit card on December 10, 2026, from 4 PM onwards.
7. Prepare for the NID DAT Prelims scheduled for December 20, 2026, and revise design aptitude, visual reasoning, observation and creativity-based topics.
