NEET UG 2024 Result Controversy: Students Demand Re-exam for All NEET UG Aspirants

New Delhi: The Supreme Court's decision to cancel the scorecards of 1,563 NEET UG candidates who received grace marks has sparked widespread conflict on fairness and transparency in the examination process, with calls for re-examination to provide equal opportunities for all students.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that it will cancel the scorecards of 1,563 candidates who received "grace marks" in the 2024 National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate). These candidates, awarded grace marks to compensate for lost time during the NEET-UG 2024, will be able to reappear for the exam.

Re-Examination Scheduled

The re-examination for these candidates is scheduled for June 23, 2024, with results expected before June 30, 2024. A committee has been formed to review the candidates' results and decided to cancel their scorecards, giving them the option to take a re-test.

A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta heard the NTA's announcement. The Supreme Court reiterated that it will not stay the NEET-UG 2024 counseling process, ensuring that counseling will proceed as planned. The Court will continue hearing petitions on July 8, 2024, and acknowledge that the re-test for the 1,563 students will be officially notified today. The results will be declared before June 30, 2024, to ensure that the July counseling schedule remains unaffected.

Student Reactions to the Verdict

The Supreme Court's recent verdict on the NEET UG 2024 examination has sparked diverse student reactions nationwide. The decision to cancel the scorecards of 1,563 NEET UG candidates who received grace marks and offer them a re-examination on June 23, 2024, has been met with both support and criticism.

Re-Exam Should Include All Aspirants: Akhil Tiwari

Akhil Tiwari, a 17-year-old NEET UG candidate from Uttar Pradesh, strongly criticizes allowing only 1,563 students to retake the exam. He argues that this opportunity should be extended to all students who appeared for the exam.

Spoke on his own experience at Dayanand Bachhrawan PG College, Akhil reported significant issues, including teachers not providing the full allotted time of 3 hours and 20 minutes and widespread cheating due to inattentive invigilators.

Supreme Court's Decision Partial: Deepshi Gawri

Deepshi Gawri, a NEET aspirant from Amritsar, expresses her frustration with the Supreme Court's decision to remove grace marks for 1,563 students. She argues that a more thorough investigation is needed to determine the number of affected students.

"There should be a separate committee to verify if it's 1,563 students or more, which NTA might be concealing," Deepshi suggests, advocating for transparency. She further stated that "We have lost trust in the NTA after so many irregularities. Please replace the NTA and conduct a re-NEET for fairness."

NEET Irregularities Demand Comprehensive Re-Examination: Apul Saini

Apul Saini, a dedicated NEET aspirant from Delhi, strongly criticizes the recent developments surrounding NEET UG 2024. Apul argues that more than conducting re-exams for only 1,563 students is needed, highlighting the need for comprehensive action to address widespread issues. Demanding accountability and fairness, Apul calls for a re-examination that includes all NEET UG aspirants.

SC-Monitored Investigation Essential: Parnava Roy

Parnava Roy, a NEET UG aspirant from Kolkata, has raised his voice amidst the ongoing controversy about the examination's integrity. Highlighting his own academic achievements, including a score of over 500 in NEET UG and high percentages in ISC and ICSE, Parnava supports the Supreme Court's decision to remove grace marks but questions the extent of irregularities.

As Parnava continues to prepare for future attempts, his call for a thorough investigation represents the interest of many aspirants seeking equity and integrity in the NEET UG examination process.

Call for Re-NEET in All Centres with Irregularities: Atul Sharma

Atul Sharma, a NEET UG candidate from Ayodhya who scored 603 marks and ranked 77K on his second attempt, has expressed dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court's recent decision. He raises several concerns about the transparency and fairness of the examination process.

Criticism of NTA's Inconsistent Communication

Atul criticizes the National Testing Agency (NTA) for inconsistent communication. Initially, NTA stated that only students from Rajasthan would retake the exam, but later acknowledged paper leaks in multiple centers. Atul questions the discrepancy in the number of affected students. While the NTA has acknowledged 1,563 affected students across five centers, he suspects the impact might be more significant, involving more centers and students.

He also criticizes the decision to award grace marks without consulting the affected students, emphasizing the need for transparency and the student's right to information.

Atul calls for reopening the reporting window and re-examining at centers where irregularities were reported, including the centre with seven AIR 1 candidates. Alternatively, he advocates for a nationwide re-NEET to ensure fairness for all aspirants.
