Amid the ongoing protests over the NEET examination process, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reiterated that NEET UG 2027 will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

Amid the ongoing protests over the NEET examination process, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has reiterated that NEET UG 2027 will be conducted entirely in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The change will end the traditional pen-and-paper OMR system and require candidates to answer through a digital interface. The decision aims to strengthen security, transparency and monitoring in one of India’s largest entrance examinations.
The minister renewed the announcement as the NEET issue gained attention during the ongoing CJP-led protests. While the examination mode will change, the academic structure is expected to remain unchanged. NEET UG will continue to carry 720 marks, with questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

NEET 2027 CBT Mode Key Details
Under the new system, candidates will view questions on a computer screen and select responses using a mouse. They will no longer receive an OMR answer sheet for filling bubbles manually. CBT may reduce risks connected with printing, transportation and physical handling of confidential question papers.
The National Testing Agency already conducts JEE Main and CUET in computer-based mode. However, NEET has a much larger candidate pool, requiring extensive infrastructure, trained staff, backup systems and computer-equipped centres nationwide.

Will the NEET 2027 Exam Pattern Change?
The Education Minister has indicated that only the mode of examination will change. The academic pattern and marking scheme are expected to remain the same, with 720 marks across the three core subjects. However, NTA has not released the detailed NEET 2027 information bulletin.
Candidates should wait for confirmation regarding total questions, examination duration, language options, navigation controls and rough-sheet arrangements. Claims about changes in question numbers or sectional patterns are not final until NTA publishes the notification.

Reddit Discussion on NEET 2027
The announcement has triggered extensive discussion among NEET aspirants on Reddit. Students in the r/MEDICOreTARDS community questioned whether NTA has enough computers and testing centres to conduct the examination smoothly for such a large candidate pool.
Several users predicted that NEET may be held in multiple shifts or across several days. Aspirants also questioned how NTA would prepare numerous equivalent papers and ensure that one shift is not easier or more difficult than another.
Another concern was the possible use of normalisation or percentile-based scoring. Some students argued that difficulty differences between shifts could affect ranks unfairly. Others were worried because they had already purchased or started practising through OMR-based test series. These comments represent student reactions and speculation; they are not official NEET 2027 rules.
How Should Students Prepare for NEET 2027?
Aspirants should continue focusing on the prescribed Physics, Chemistry and Biology syllabus, while gradually adding online mock tests. Computer-based practice will help students become comfortable with screen reading, question navigation, marking answers and reviewing responses.
Students should also practise calculations on rough paper while viewing questions digitally. Regular CBT mocks can improve speed, accuracy and time management while reducing exam-day anxiety.

Will NEET 2027 Be Conducted in Multiple Shifts?
Multiple shifts are possible because of the examination’s scale, but they have not been officially confirmed. NTA has also not announced a normalisation formula, percentile system or shift-wise evaluation policy.
Until the official bulletin is released, students should avoid relying on social-media predictions about shifts, examination dates or scoring.

What’s Next for Students?
The CBT transition may improve security and eliminate OMR-related marking errors, but NTA must address infrastructure, technical failures, equal-difficulty papers and access for candidates in remote areas.
NEET 2027 aspirants should begin digital practice early and regularly check the official NTA and NEET portals. The final schedule, registration dates, syllabus, exam pattern and technical guidelines will be confirmed through the official NEET 2027 notification once it is formally released by NTA.
