What Are the New MCC Reforms for NEET UG 2026 Counselling?
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has introduced six major counselling reforms for NEET UG 2026 under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The changes aim to make the admission process faster, more transparent, and reduce repeated visits to colleges.
One of the biggest updates is one-time physical reporting, where candidates need to report to their allotted college only after the final seat allotment. Online document verification has also been introduced, allowing institutes to verify candidate records digitally using NTA data.
| Reform | What It Means for Candidates | Benefits |
|---|---|---|
| One-Time Physical Reporting | Candidates will report to the allotted college only once after seat allotment | Reduces travel time and expenses; Simplifies admission process; No multiple visits required |
| Online Document Verification | Institutes will verify documents digitally using pre-filled NTA records | Faster verification process; No need to carry physical documents; Reduces paperwork |
| Online Resignation | Candidates can resign from an allotted seat directly through the MCC portal | Easy seat withdrawal; No need to visit college; Instant confirmation |
| Digital NRI Submission | NRI candidates can upload documents online instead of sending them by email | Convenient for international candidates; Faster processing; Secure document submission |
| Expanded PwBD Assessment | PwBD assessment centres have increased from 16 to 61 across the country | Better accessibility for disabled candidates; More centres nationwide; Reduced travel burden |
| Cybersecurity Upgrade | MCC has strengthened the counselling system in coordination with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) | Enhanced data security; Protected candidate information; Secure online transactions |

Candidates opting for the Float option can continue participating in later counselling rounds while retaining their allotted seat. Those choosing the Freeze option must complete admission formalities after allotment.
The reforms also include 24×7 candidate support, trained Document Verification Officers, and an expanded network of PwBD Medical Boards to simplify the counselling process for eligible students.
MCC counselling decides admission to nearly all premier medical colleges in India. The staggered structure gives candidates several chances at a preferred seat. Any delay in registration can push a candidate out of the round.
