Mangalore University: Final year UG & PG Exams Begin Smoothly

The even-semester final year examination of UG and post-graduate courses offered by Mangalore University(MU) had a relatively smooth start on Tuesday. Read the full story.

Normally, the exams were delayed due to the pandemic in April / May.

It is held in accordance with the direction of the Supreme Court, which in August confirmed the guidelines of the UGC of 6 July, which made it compulsory for all universities to hold final-year exams.

MU Vice-Chancellor P S Yadapadithaya said the initial reports received by the university authorities were encouraging.

A positive student from Udupi, Covid19, was eager to appear for the examination but decided against it on medical advice. Separate arrangements have been made for positive students to write the exam at the Covid19 Examination Centre, he said adding those who are unable to do so may appear for special examinations in November.

The university will treat such students as fresher and not repeaters; he said they do not need to pay the examination fee again.

In addition, students who appear for the on-going examination and are unable to give their best due to understandable strain can seek to improve the same in the November examinations, he said. "Syndicate has given us the leeway to be liberal with students for this examination as a one-time special case," said Yadapadithaya.

P L Dharma, Registrar (Evaluation) said that a group of students from Belthangady, Uppinangady and Sullia were unable to register for the online examination due to connectivity issues.

The University made special arrangements for the issue of manual hall tickets.

One positive Covid19 student appeared at the Moodbidri Examination Center for Examination, Dharma said, adding that the initial reports and feedback from the stakeholders were a pleasant one.

The university had initially planned to complete the examinations by 30 September.

However, the multitude of combinations in the BA UG programme and the non-availability of dates due to NET / KSET examinations scheduled later in the month have extended the time table to mid-October, VC said.

In all, 32,820 UG and PG students registered for examinations in 205 centres across the districts of DK, Udupi and Kodagu, of which 26,215 were students.

Students took part in the UG / PG examination in faraway Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur and Karnataka University, Dharwad. The authorities of the J&K Exam Center sent videos and photos of the examinations carried out there.

The authorities of Manipur University who carried out the examination on our behalf also sent us the 'A' form, that is, the attendance sheet of the 16 candidates who appeared there for the examinations, Dharma added.
