New Delhi: Madras University will host its annual start-up competition, "THULIR-2024," to empower students and cultivate their innovative business concepts. The competition was supported by the centrally sponsored Rashtriya Uchathar Siksha Abhiyaan (RUSA) scheme.

Online registration for students is open until March 30, 2024, and the final results, scheduled for April 19, 2024, will see over ten lakhs disbursed as seed funding to the winning teams.

The university's Entrepreneurship and Career Hub (ECH) announced that this business plan competition is specifically structured to provide student entrepreneurs with practical experience in refining their business plans and delivering compelling elevator pitches to secure funding for successful business launches.

The ECH emphasises the establishment of an entrepreneurial ecosystem within educational institutions and encourages entrepreneurial endeavours among students. The competition comprises two selection rounds, with the first focusing on the elevator pitch.

Participating teams presented a one-minute video pitch during the initial round and submitted a two-page Word document outlining their business plans. The elevator pitch criteria addressed the targeted problem, proposed resolution, beneficiaries, and the strategy for reaching the initial customer. Teams were also encouraged to showcase any prototypes or minimum viable products.

The subsequent round involved evaluating twenty shortlisted teams through final presentations before a panel of judges. The "THULIR-2024" competition enlisted an esteemed jury to assess the submissions and shortlist teams for the concluding presentation.

Competition guidelines permit submitting any number of business plans from a department as long as the teams have no members. Each team must consist of a minimum of two and a maximum of five members, with each group having a faculty mentor from the university.
