LPU’s 11th Convocation Ends With 60000 Graduates, Honorary Doctorate Conferred to Former PM of Australia

LPU’s 11th Convocation Ends With 60000 Graduates, Honorary Doctorate Conferred to Former PM of Australia

New Delhi: The 11th Annual Convocation of Lovely Professional University took place on February 26, 2024. The Convocation saw a whopping 60,000 students clinch degrees in various disciplines. The convocation ceremony also marked the graduation of LPU’s first batch of ‘Online Mode Students’

On this occasion, Tony Abbott, Former Prime Minister of Australia, was invited as the Chief Guest and subsequently awarded an honorary doctorate. He awarded 102 gold medals, 555 PhDs and 567 merit certificates to students for their academic and extracurricular achievements.

Abbott now holds one of nine such LPU honorary doctorates. Previous recipients of the honorary doctorate include the 14th Dalai Lama and former President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai. 

The convocation was also graced by the presence of dignitaries such as Lovely Group Chairman Ramesh Mittal, Community Leader in Australia Mr. Jagvinder Singh Virk, and former Secretary of UGC Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu.

In his address, Tony Abbott talked about how much he valued India and found it a “remarkable country”. He urged the fresh graduates in the room to use the skills and confidence their degrees bring and put them to use bringing development, prosperity, and peace to their country. 

Dr Ashok Mittal, Founder Chancellor of LPU, highlighted the achievements of LUP as he presided over the ceremony. He spoke about LPU’s partnership with 16 Universities in Australia, the achievements of LPU students like Olympic athlete Neeraj Chopra, the large placement packages awarded to LPU students, and the A++ Grade awarded to LPU by NAAC. 

Dr Mittal also motivated the audience to invoke the spirit of research (Anusandhan) in their future endeavours. This statement was a callback to the slogan of “Jai Anusandhan” that PM Modi gave to students during his visit to LPU.
