Kannur University PhD Admission 2025 Selection Process
Kannur University has released detailed guidelines for its PhD admission cycle 2025, outlining eligibility norms, entrance test structure, selection rules and application timelines. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree, either a 1-year/2-semester programme after a 4-year Bachelor’s, or a 2-year Master’s after a 3-year Bachelor’s, with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade.
Those pursuing a Master’s after completing a 4-year undergraduate programme require 75% marks. A 5% relaxation applies for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/differently-abled categories as per government norms. National-level test qualifiers such as NET/JRF/GATE/CEED may receive exemption from the entrance exam, based on category rules.
For applicants not exempted, the University will conduct a two-hour entrance test carrying 70 marks, with a 50–50 split between research methodology and subject-based questions. The paper will feature both MCQs and descriptive questions. To qualify, general category candidates must score 50%, while reserved category applicants need 45%.
Candidates who are exempted under JRF + Assistant Professor eligibility will be selected solely through an interview, while those under Assistant Professor/PhD-only categories will be evaluated with 70% weightage for test score and 30% for interview.
All shortlisted candidates must submit a research synopsis and appear for an interview in online, offline or hybrid mode, with final merit based on test/NET score + interview.
The PhD programme requires a minimum of 3 years (including coursework) and permits a maximum of 6 years for completion. Women candidates and those with ≥40% disability may receive two additional years beyond the maximum duration.
Applications must be submitted online from October 27 to November 18, 2025, with an application fee of ₹700 paid via SBI e-Pay; the fee is non-refundable. No physical forms are required, but applicants must retain a digital/printed copy for records.
Essential documents include Master’s degree proof, category certificate, national-level exam scorecard (if applicable) and research synopsis for exempted candidates. The University retains the right to reject incomplete applications and will admit students subject to available vacancies.
