JoSAA 2026 Counselling

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has announced that counselling registration for 2026 will begin on June 2, 2026, on the official portal josaa.nic.in. JEE Main qualified candidates seeking admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, along with JEE Advanced qualified candidates aiming for IIT seats, must register during this window.

The counselling process will comprise six rounds of seat allocation, with the final round exclusively for IITs. Candidates are advised to keep all required documents ready before registration begins.

JoSAA 2026 manages admissions to 127 premier engineering institutes across India through a centralized online platform. Seat allotment is based on JEE Main 2026 ranks for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, while JEE Advanced ranks determine IIT admissions.

The process includes registration, choice filling, mock seat allocation, final allotment, document verification, and physical reporting. Candidates must meet eligibility criteria including minimum 75% marks in Class 12 (65% for reserved categories) and be within the top 20 percentile of their respective board examination.

JoSAA 2026 Counselling Seat Allotment Options

After receiving a seat allotment, candidates choose between three options: Freeze (accepting the seat and exiting counselling), Float (participating in subsequent rounds for better options), or Slide (seeking better courses within the same institute).

Slide and Float options are unavailable for candidates allotted their first choice or in the final round. Candidates can change from Float to Slide or Freeze, but once Freeze is selected, it cannot be modified in any subsequent round.

What’s Next For Students

Following the six JoSAA rounds, any remaining vacant seats will be filled through CSAB special counselling. Candidates should monitor the official website for round-wise seat allotment results and respond to queries promptly to avoid seat cancellation.

The orientation and class commencement schedules for IITs will be announced separately. Experts recommend candidates fill maximum choices according to their ranks to increase admission chances and carefully review all details before locking choices to avoid errors that could lead to admission cancellation.
