Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has opened admission for PhD 2024-25 session. The admissions will be based on valid NET (UGC or CSIR) / GATE scores or JRF fellowship.

JNU PhD Admission 2024-25 Eligibility Criteria
Admission through UGC/CSIR NET
- Applications for admission to Ph.D Programmes through NET Examination of UGC/CSIR using NET percentile are invited from eligible candidates under:
- JRF qualified candidates
- Candidates qualified for Assistant Professorship without JRF
- Candidates neither qualified for JRF nor for Assistant Professorship but are eligible for admission to Ph.D only
- Admission through UGC/CSIR NET Categories will be done on the basis of the NET percentile of UGC/CSIR. The weightage for the NET percentile and for viva voce will be 70% and 30% respectively.
- The Percentile of the NET Examination (June 2024 cycle) of UGC/CSIR will be considered for admission to PhD 2024-25. Previous NET percentiles/scores will not be considered.
Admission through JRF
- Candidates with Junior Research Fellowship of UGC/CSIR in the relevant NET Subjects
- Junior Research Fellowship of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), and National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) examinations in the relevant subjects.
- Candidates shall have to appear for viva voce with 100% weightage and their selection shall be purely based on their performance in the viva voce.
Admission through GATE
- Candidates, who fulfill the minimum eligibility requirements, (Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering) in the School of Engineering with a valid GATE score are eligible.
- The weightage of the GATE score and viva voce will be 70% and 30% respectively.
JNU PhD Admission 2024-25 Documents
Documents for Viva voce
- Testimonials from two persons, one should be a former teacher of the candidate;
- A complete list of subjects/papers taken by the candidate for the certificates/degrees
- A copy of at least one of the published papers of the candidate, if any
- A brief note (one copy) stating the candidate's area of specialized interest of research, if any, and his future professional goals
- A research proposal has to be submitted by the candidate at the time of viva voce.
- Self-attested printout of score card of NET (UGC/CSIR/GATE)
- Self-attested valid JRF certificate for Ph.D. admission under the JRF category
Documents Required at Admission
- Enrolment Form
- Central Library Application Form.
- Five copies of recent passport-size photographs.
- Two sets of self-attested copies of the Matriculation, Higher secondary, Pre-University, or Indian School Certificate or Senior School Certificate (10+2), or an equivalent examination
- Two sets of self-attested copies of marks obtained by the candidate and passing certificate/degree of Senior School, Bachelor‘s Degree/Master‘s Degree examination, etc; or their equivalent examination.
- SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD/PH candidates: Two self-attested copies and one original document of relevant certificates.
- Ph.D. admission under NET (UGC/CSIR/GATE): self-attested scorecard
- Ph.D. admission under the JRF category: self-attested JRF certificate within the validity of dates for the fellowship mentioned in the JRF certificate.
- Provisional Certificate of the qualifying examination
- Migration certificate
- Character Certificate
- Anti-ragging undertaking
- Discontinuation certificate, if pursuing any other regular course
