The Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU) will use their grant of INR crore to install generators, smartboards and necessary equipment in the University.

Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University Receives INR 1 Crore from UGC

New Delhi: The Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), Patiala has received a grant of INR 1 crore from the University Grants Commission (UGC). According to the Ministry of Education, the grant will help JGND PSOU to update their infrastructure and get the latest education-assistive technology.

The UGC gives such grants, called grants-in-aid, to Universities and colleges for improvement of learning infrastructure and teaching techniques at the respective university. The grant money that JGND PSOU has received is under the “Assistance to IGNOU & SOUs” part of the UGC budget. Since JGND PSOU is one of India’s 14 State Open Universities (SOUs), it can receive money under this bracket.

With the money, JGND PSOU will buy generators, smart boards, AV equipment, lab equipment, and other necessities required by the university.

According to reports,JGND PSOU has received the maximum amount that UG can give out in their grants-in-aid. Until date, the UGC has given up to INR 1 crore in grant to 131 State Universities and upto INR 25 lakh to 6000 state-affiliated colleges.

Vice-Chancellor of JGND PSOU, Prof Karamjeet Singh, gave a statement about the grant. He said, “The Punjab State Open University is one of the nine state open universities (SOUs) across India being benefitted by UGC’s special grant. This grant will strengthen the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system. The sanctioned amount will be utilized for developing course material, ICT, quality assurance measures and networking of distance education systems, among others.”
