IP University will use CUET as a backup option for B.Tech admission 2025-26, only after the JEE Main counselling.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has officially notified a key update in its B.Tech admission for the academic year 2025-26 onwards, that CUET scores will be considered as a secondary channel for B.Tech admissions after the completion of JEE Main-based counselling to fill the vacant engineering seats.
The above decision has been approved by the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, and will be implemented from 2025–26 onwards. However, the JEE Main will continue to remain the primary and mandatory entrance exam for admission to the B.Tech programme at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi.

How BTech Admissions at GGSIPU Will Work in 2026
- JEE Main will remain the primary basis for admission to the B.Tech program across IPU and its affiliated institutes.
- CUET scores will be used only if seats remain vacant after completing JEE Main–based counselling rounds.
- The CUET route will not replace JEE Main, but will act as a backend support to avoid seat wastage.
Why IPU Introduced CUET for B.Tech
University officials stated that the move aims to broaden access to engineering education and ensure that B.Tech seats do not remain unfilled, especially in later counselling rounds. Students who could not secure admission through JEE Main will get an additional opportunity via CUET.
This will be an alternative way to enter engineering colleges.
Official Notification
Candidates who are targeting IPU colleges for B.Tech admission have to target the JEE Main examination and the CUET examination if seats are available, even after the JEE Main-based counselling round. However, qualifying in both exams will slightly increase the chances of getting admission.
