IIT Madras Zanzibar Admissions 2026 Open; M.Tech Deadline April 15, BS April 30

IIT Madras Zanzibar, India's first international campus, has launched its admission process for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes for the 2026 academic year. Aspirants can register and apply through the official admission portal at admissions.iitmz.ac.in.

The campus, located in Tanzania, offers multiple specializations across engineering and technology fields with screening tests scheduled for April and June 2026.

The campus serves students from across the globe, currently hosting over 129 enrolled students with representation from Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia, Kenya, and other nations.

IIT Madras Zanzibar offers four primary programmes: BS in Data Science & AI, BS in Chemical Process Engineering, M.Tech in Data Science & AI, M.Tech in Ocean Structures, M.Tech in Industrial AI, and PhD opportunities. The 2025 M.Tech graduating batch achieved 100 per cent industrial placement, demonstrating the campus's strong industry connections and academic excellence.

IIT Madras Zanzibar Admissions 2026 Important Dates

The screening tests will be conducted simultaneously at centres in India and abroad, ensuring accessibility for international candidates. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews following their screening test performance.

Required documents for application include resume or CV, Grade 10 and 12 mark sheets, statement of purpose, UG or PG transcripts, and degree certificates. Candidates must ensure accurate contact information and complete all mandatory fields marked with asterisks.

The admissions team recommends submitting applications well before the deadline to avoid technical issues and last-minute complications.

Prof. V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, emphasized the campus's significance, stating that IIT Madras Zanzibar represents a historic milestone for Indian higher education globally.

Prof. Prabhu Rajagopal, who assumed charge as director-in-charge in January 2026, highlighted the campus's academic achievements and research contributions. The campus has established strong partnerships with academic and industrial communities in Tanzania and globally through conferences, workshops, internships, and joint research projects.

The permanent campus development at Fumba peninsula is progressing steadily, with a new hostel block inaugurated in January 2026. Faculty members have presented research at leading global platforms including ICML, ICLR, and IEEE conferences.

Students have secured internships with organizations such as SuperDoll, Zantel, and Airtel, while scholarships from the Airtel Africa Foundation have expanded access to quality higher education.
