DoMS IIT Madras has released the provisional selected list for its MS and PhD admission (January 2025). The provisionally selected candidates have to attend the interview session. Candidates may have to take the Research Aptitude Test on the interview day.

DoMS IIT Madras Shortlisting Criteria

Once the department receives the applications, the shortlist of candidates is prepared. The typical criteria for shortlisting the candidates at IIT Madras are listed below:

Academic performance
Performance in the qualifying examination.
Statement of purpose and research proposal
Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview session at the department.

DoMS IIT Madras Research Aptitude Test

The Research Aptitude Test is a generic test evaluating the candidates on the following:

Analytical
Language
Research skills

The examination is mostly objective type with the possibility of an essay-type question. The candidates who have filled exemption from the qualifying examination are required to take a separate department examination, based on the areas of specialization chosen by the candidates. However, the documents supporting the application will be verified.

DoMS IIT Madras Interview Process

The first phase of the interview is technical, where the candidate is tested on domain knowledge. Selection is based on performance in the interview. A panel of faculty members evaluates candidates based on their chosen area of specialization.
