IIT Madras and Hyundai Motor India to Establish ‘Hydrogen Valley Innovation Hub’

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hyundai Motor India Limited, and Guidance Tamil Nadu to establish a 'Hydrogen Valley Innovation Hub'. The MoU was signed during Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet 2024.

Hyundai Motor India and IIT Madras will foster the development of a sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem in the country with the Hydrogen Valley Innovation Hub. The hub will be established on the institute campus with the required infrastructure and R&D facilities.

Informing about this initiative, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “This funding from Hyundai has come at an extremely appropriate time and certainly shall help in the rapid growth of this Consortium. I am sure in the years to come; this Consortium will provide feasible solutions towards substitution of non-fossil fuels by green hydrogen”.

The Hydrogen Valley Innovation Hub project will be constructed with an INR 100 Crore investment by Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL). The total project cost is INR 180 Crores.

The Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster in Tamil Nadu (HVIC-TN) includes stakeholders from more than 20 hydrogen-related companies, as well as investors, consulates, IIT Madras, IIT Madras Research Park, Guidance Tamil Nadu, and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation.
