New Delhi: IIT Kanpur has launched the "IK" Study Centre for Indian Knowledge System (IKS) for Holistic Advancement on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. The center will aim to provide holistic learning to students from India's broad and enriching knowledge system.
During the centre's inauguration at IIT Kanpur, Prof. Arnab Bhattacharya gave an introduction of the centre. He further explained IKS-related studies, research, content production, and outreach in his speech.
The centre's website and logo, which features Dhyeyavakya from Bhagavad-gita, were unveiled by Director Prof. Abhay Karandikar. The logo was described as an illusionary representation of the truth, whose nature can only be realised by selfless understanding.
According to the officials, IIT Kanpur has taken a step towards investigating and developing Indian knowledge systems by inaugurating the "IK" Study Centre for Indian Knowledge System for Holistic Advancement. This would have a positive effect on industry and society.
IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Abhay Karandikar stated, "We intend to incorporate the huge knowledge system of India into our academic curricula and research and make it accessible to the globe through the IK Study Centre for Indian Knowledge System for Holistic Advancement”.
Adding to the statement, he shared that “We intend to make IIT Kanpur a premier global institution for IKS studies by establishing this centre as a venue for interdisciplinary research and development”.
The centre will carry out research in a number of fields, including health and wellness, mathematics and astronomy, sanskrit and linguistic studies, consciousness studies, archaeometallurgy & materials, darsanas, acoustics & music and water management systems.
The top 20 professors from more than 12 departments of IIT Kanpur will carry out the research and join the newly inaugurated center. The "IK" Study Centre's long-term goal is to make IIT Kanpur the leading institution for IKS research across the globe.
