IIT Kharagpur has released the IIT JAM 2027 syllabus and exam pattern on jam.iitkgp.ac.in. Candidates can check subject-wise topics and the section-wise question breakdown before registration opens in September 2026.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) has released the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027 syllabus and exam pattern. Both documents are now live on the official portal at jam.iitkgp.ac.in.
JAM 2027 will be held as a Computer Based Test (CBT). Aspirants may sit for one or two papers under this cycle.

IIT JAM 2027 Exam Pattern
The exam carries 100 marks across 60 questions. Candidates get three hours to complete the paper. The paper is divided into three sections as shown below.

Section A tests core concepts through single-correct MCQs. Section B checks depth with questions that may have multiple correct options. Section C measures precision through numerical answers keyed via a virtual keypad.
A virtual calculator will be available on-screen during the test. Electronic devices and mobile phones are not allowed inside the hall.

Programmes and Seats on Offer
JAM 2027 scores unlock admission to MSc and MSc-PhD programmes. Dual degree and joint offerings are on offer at IITs and IISc Bangalore. Scores may also be used for select MTech and MS Research routes. The exact seat matrix will be released closer to counselling.
JAM 2027 Test Cities
The exam will be held at test cities across India. IIT Kharagpur has confirmed that no overseas centres will operate this year. Candidates can pick preferred cities during registration on the JOAPS portal.
