IIT Bombay's 2024-25 placement season concluded with 1,422 students securing job offers from 417 companies. The placement rate declined to 70% from last year's 75%, reflecting global hiring uncertainties. However, average salary surged to Rs 26.45 lakh, marking a 10% increase from the previous year.

The institute noted that not all registered students participated in placements. Many pursued alternative career paths including entrepreneurship, higher studies, and postdoctoral research. Of 2,469 registered students, only 2,040 participated in the two-phase placement process conducted between July 2024 and June 2025.

Multinational companies operating in India accounted for 840 offers, while Indian firms contributed 517 placements. This demonstrates strong global demand for IIT Bombay graduates across multiple geographies.

The average CTC reached Rs 26.45 lakh, while the median salary stood at Rs 20 lakh. Both figures increased by over 10% compared to the previous year, indicating stronger compensation trends despite global uncertainties. The salary surge reflects high demand for specialized skills in technology, data analytics, and consulting sectors.

Top Recruiting Companies at IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay attracted 417 companies across diverse sectors. Top recruiters included technology giants Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Intel. Finance and consulting firms like Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Company, Deloitte, and Accenture actively recruited. Other major recruiters included JP Morgan Chase, ICICI Bank, PwC, Wipro, Qualcomm, Honeywell, Boeing, Bosch, L&T, ITC, HUL, and Adani.

Among PhD students, 150 active participants sought placements compared to 118 in the previous year. However, only 28 placement offers were received, down from 32 offers last year. The institute noted that graduating PhD students typically pursue postdoctoral fellowships and startup opportunities instead of traditional employment.

What’s Next for Students

IIT Bombay's placement data shows stability in the post-pandemic period. The peak of 1,516 placements occurred in 2022-23. BTech placements have shown steady growth over four years, with 2024-25 recording 678 offers, nearly matching the previous year's 683 offers. This consistency reflects the institute's sustained appeal to recruiters.

Students who secured offers will begin their careers across diverse sectors starting from June 2025. The institute will facilitate counselling and onboarding processes with recruiting companies. For students pursuing higher studies or entrepreneurship, IIT Bombay continues to provide mentorship and support through its alumni network and incubation centers.
