IIT Bombay fees depend on the course, batch and student category. For new Indian BTech students in Autumn 2026-27, first-semester academic fees are ₹1,34,150 for General/EWS/OBC-NCL and ₹34,150 for SC/ST/PwD. Hostel fees of ₹19,950 and a mess advance of ₹22,500 are extra. MTech, MSc and PhD fees depend on the course and admission category. The two-year MBA academic fee is ₹15,55,800 for the 2026-28 General/EWS/OBC-NCL batch. Eligible UG students can get a tuition fee waiver based on category or parents’ income. Online diplomas and the Executive MBA have separate fees and payment terms.
Key points: Tuition fee waivers do not cover hostel, mess or other charges. Students must use the fee amount for their own batch and admission category. Fees for later semesters may change.
IIT Bombay BTech Fees 2026-27
IIT Bombay charges ₹1 lakh as tuition fee for one semester for new Indian BTech students in the General, EWS and OBC-NCL categories. A semester is one part of the academic year. The first payment also includes other fees and deposits.
The same fee table applies to new BS, BDes and BTech-MTech dual-degree students. The amounts below are for the Autumn semester of 2026-27. SC, ST and PwD students do not pay tuition fees.
| Fee component | General / EWS / OBC-NCL | SC / ST / PwD |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition fee for the semester | ₹1,00,000 | Nil |
| Registration and examination fee | ₹2,400 | ₹2,400 |
| Gymkhana fee | ₹2,400 | ₹2,400 |
| Student Benevolent Fund | ₹800 | ₹800 |
| Student Accident Insurance Fund | ₹400 | ₹400 |
| Medical fee | ₹2,150 | ₹2,150 |
| One-time admission, alumni and welfare fees | ₹16,000 | ₹16,000 |
| Refundable institute and library deposits | ₹10,000 | ₹10,000 |
| Academic fees at joining | ₹1,34,150 | ₹34,150 |
The one-time fee of ₹16,000 includes admission, alumni membership and student welfare fees. The ₹10,000 deposit has two parts: ₹5,000 for the institute and ₹5,000 for the library. These deposits are refundable under institute rules.
IIT Bombay Fees for 4 Years: Is the Total Fixed?
BTech, BS and BDes normally take four years. The BTech-MTech dual degree takes five years. IIT Bombay can change fees in later semesters. The first-semester payment also includes fees that students pay only once. So, multiplying it by eight does not give a confirmed four-year BTech fee.
For the 2026 batch, tuition and other semester fees add up to ₹1,08,150 before one-time fees and deposits. The 2025 batch pays ₹1,07,750 for the Autumn 2026-27 semester. For dual-degree students doing the final-year project, a different tuition rule starts from the ninth semester.
IIT Bombay Hostel Fees and Mess Charges
For new UG students, the hostel fee is ₹19,950 for Autumn 2026-27. Students also pay a ₹22,500 mess advance for the semester. The mess advance is money paid in advance for meals.

Academic fees ₹1,34,150
Hostel fees ₹19,950
Mess advance ₹22,500
Indian General/EWS/OBC-NCL students, Autumn 2026-27, before any income-based tuition waiver. All bars use the same rupee scale.
Academic and hostel fees together are ₹1,54,100 for General/EWS/OBC-NCL students. They are ₹54,100 for SC/ST/PwD students. IIT Bombay then subtracts the part of the seat-acceptance payment sent to it by JoSAA or UCEED.
| Admission and category | Amount already paid and sent to IIT Bombay | Fees left to pay (without mess) |
|---|---|---|
| JoSAA: General / EWS / OBC-NCL | ₹25,000 | ₹1,29,100 |
| JoSAA: SC / ST / PwD | ₹10,000 | ₹44,100 |
| UCEED: General / EWS / OBC-NCL | ₹60,000 | ₹94,100 |
| UCEED: SC / ST / PwD | ₹15,000 | ₹39,100 |
JoSAA keeps ₹5,000 as a processing fee before sending the balance to IIT Bombay. The table shows the amount that reaches the institute. Students must pay the fees left after this adjustment, plus the mess advance.
Students admitted through INMO do not get a JoSAA or UCEED payment adjustment. They pay the full academic and hostel amount for their category.
IIT Bombay Fee Waiver for SC, ST, PwD and Low-Income Students
A fee waiver means that students do not have to pay all or part of a fee. SC, ST and PwD students do not pay UG tuition fees. They still pay other fees, including hostel and mess charges.
IIT Bombay also reduces tuition fees for eligible BTech, BS, BDes and BTech-MTech students based on their parents’ income.
| Parents’ yearly income before deductions | Tuition fee reduction |
|---|---|
| Below ₹1 lakh | Full tuition fee waiver |
| ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh | Two-thirds of tuition fee waived |
Students must apply each year and submit an income certificate for the previous financial year. IIT Bombay counts parents’ income before deductions. This reduction applies to tuition fees. It does not remove hostel, mess or other charges.

How to Pay IIT Bombay Fees
Students paying through a bank loan, a sponsor or NEFT must first create a fee demand on the ASC portal. A fee demand is the institute’s payment request. The academic fee circular says it stays valid for ten days.
- Create the fee demand for the required payment.
- Pay using the bank details in that demand. Do not use an old Registrar account.
- Enter the UTR, which is the bank transfer reference number, on the portal.
- Save the receipt and check that IIT Bombay has recorded the payment.
New students must also follow the payment deadline in their offer letter. For course selection and application steps, see IIT Bombay admission.
