Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar has opened M.Tech 2026–27 applications for 17 specializations with 311 seats. Candidates must apply by April 20, 2026, and GATE-qualified applicants need COAP registration first.

IIT Bhubaneswar MTech Admission 2026 Open Till April 20

IIT Bhubaneswar has invited applications for admission into M.Tech programmes for the academic year 2026-27 across multiple specializations. The online application window opened on March 23, 2026, and will close on April 20, 2026. All GATE-qualified candidates and eligible IIT graduates interested in pursuing M.Tech admission must first register on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) before filling the institute's online application form.

IIT Bhubaneswar is offering 17 M.Tech specializations across five schools with a total intake capacity of 311 seats for regular candidates. The School of Infrastructure (SIF) offers five specializations including Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, and Geotechnical Engineering, each with 15 seats.

The School of Electrical and Computer Sciences (SECS) provides six specializations including Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Power System Engineering, Power Electronics Drives, Semiconductor Technology and Chip Design, and Signal Processing & Communication Engineering with intake ranging from 18 to 22 seats.

Candidates must possess a valid GATE score in the applicable discipline for their chosen specialization. IIT graduates with a B.Tech degree and CGPA of 8.0 or above on a 10-point scale can apply without a GATE score. Applicants must have secured at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in their qualifying degree, with 5% relaxation available for SC/ST/PwD candidates. The application fee is INR 300 for general and OBC candidates, INR150 for SC/ST/PwD candidates, and is waived for female candidates.

The fee structure for regular candidates includes a caution money of INR 12,000 (refundable), one-time admission fees of INR 8,000, and semester fees of INR 14,650. The total cost for the first semester is INR 71,398 for general/EWS/OBC category and INR 66,398 for SC/ST/PwD category. Hostel charges of INR 33,500 per semester and annual medical insurance of INR 3,248 are additional. Sponsored candidates pay higher tuition fees of INR 25,000 per semester with a total first semester cost of INR 90,398.

Selection for regular candidates will be based on GATE scores with tie-breaking rules applied using Class 12 marks, Class 10 marks, and date of birth. Sponsored candidates must have served continuously for a minimum of three years in their sponsoring organization and will undergo a written test and interview with 70% and 30% weightage respectively. All admitted M.Tech students (except sponsored) will receive assistantship for a maximum period of 24 months as per applicable rates approved by the Board of Governors.
