IIMs Placement 2024: 18 out of 21 IIMs Struggle to Conclude Summer Placements

New Delhi; Some of the leading IIMs, accustomed to achieving 100 percent placements within two days in the past, have been facing challenges in finalizing summer hirings for the past two months this year as per the report by campus recruitment and placements platform HirePro.

So far, only 3 out of 21 IIMs have successfully concluded their summer placements with 100% successful placements. The remaining 80% of the institutes are still ensuring students receive full support in securing placements, the reports said.

Among the six premier IIMs, only IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, and Lucknow have achieved 100 percent placements, while Bangalore, Indore, and IIM Kozhikode are still in the process. Additionally, out of the 15 new IIMs, only IIM Mumbai has completed the IIM Mumbai Summer Placement process, according to the report.

Why are 80% of the IIMs unable to conclude their summer placement process?

For the first time in over a decade, premier IIMs are facing an unprecedented challenge as they struggle with long efforts to ensure full student placements. Unlike the usual swift completion within a matter of days, the current placement process has been extended for two months, nearing the commencement of lateral/final placements for the graduating batch of 2024. 

This information was gained from a combination of insights gathered from IIM students, connection, and placement reports, the report said. As per assumptions, the ongoing recession, tight job market, extended summer selection, are among some of the reasons as to why the IIMs are struggling to conclude their summer placements process.
