New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode has announced the establishment of the India-Japan Study and Research Centre. This new centre at IIMK will become the flag bearer of Academic Collaboration between India-Japan.
The proposal of creating an India-Japan Study and Research Centre has received approval from Board of Governors of IIM Kozhikode in order to advance management education and research capabilities in certain areas of shared interest between the two nations.
According to Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIM Kozhikode, who made the announcement about the establishment of the study institute, there has been a long tradition of bilateral development cooperation between Japan and India.
He shared that the two countries' relationship has grown to higher heights over the years, especially in the economic, cultural, and industrial spheres. "Considering the current perspectives of both countries' interest in various domains, we developed this study/research institute”, he added.
According to Chatterjee, this effort will allow for the transfer of information and skills in fields of shared interest, facilitating research collaborations and student exchange programmes with other Japanese institutions of higher learning.
He further added that this initiative will aid in fostering awareness of Japan in India and India in Japan through research, training, and other management development efforts. Rajib Shaw from Keio University in Japan will advise IIM Kozhikode on the centre's operations.
He added “I congratulate IIMK for establishing this Centre. It will have immense potential to contribute not only to two of our countries, but it can also serve beyond bilateral collaboration in generating and implementing new innovation”.
IIM Kozhikode has continuous partnerships and collaborations with more than 50 foreign universities for student exchange programs through global immersion. The institute’s mission of ‘Globalizing Indian Thought’ aims to extend its association with other countries through education and research.
