IIM Calcutta Launches Centre for Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at India 2047 Conclave

Indian Institute of Management Calcutta inaugurated the 'Lalit Mohanka & Madan Mohanka Centre for Excellence in Entrepreneurship & Innovation' to focus on advancing entrepreneurship in both traditional and emerging sectors.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) has officially inaugurated the ‘Lalit Mohanka & Madan Mohanka Centre for Excellence in Entrepreneurship & Innovation’. The launch was part of a two-day conclave titled ‘India 2047: Building the Future with Entrepreneurship,’ held at the Joka campus.

The centre has been established with financial support from industrialist Madan Mohanka, who has contributed INR 1 crore. The primary mission of the centre is to develop entrepreneurial ecosystems that encourage sustainable economic growth and create job opportunities. Madan Mohanka stated "The centre aims to support entrepreneurial ventures and drive economic progress".

Highlights of the National Conference

There was a diverse group of visionaries, innovators, leaders, and IIM-C alumni at the national conference where they discussed the future of entrepreneurship in India and beyond.

The keynote speaker, Patanjali G Keswani, Chairman and Managing Director of Lemon Tree Hotels, addressed the audience virtually. He shared his career journey, starting with Tata Administrative Services, moving to a senior vice-president role at the Taj Group of Hotels, and eventually founding Lemon Tree Hotels.

Focus on Future Sectors

IIM-C Director-in-Charge, Saibal Chattopadhyay, explained that the conclave will look into how traditional industries like manufacturing, services, and e-commerce can use new developments to improve their business and policies. He also mentioned that emerging areas like HealthTech, EdTech, AgriTech, FinTech, and AI will be explored for their potential to drive progress.

In the event, the participants and dignitaries put forth some direction for the new centre’s future work. The launch of the ‘Lalit Mohanka & Madan Mohanka Centre for Excellence in Entrepreneurship & Innovation’ is a creative step by IIM Calcutta in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
