New Delhi: As per the latest updates, the GITAM (Deemed to be University) has launched Andhra Pradesh’s first-ever technology centre titled DST GITAM Technology Enabling Centre (G-TEC) at its Visakhapatnam campus.
As per GITAM, the centre has been established with the help of a grant of INR 3.28 crores from the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. With this initiative, the university aims to shorten the gap between industry and academia.
In addition to this, the DST GITAM Technology Enabling Centre will provide an enabling ecosystem for faculty innovators and MSMEs in the southern state. It will mainly focus on identifying new-age technologies and finding ways to make them accessible to all.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof Raja P Pappu, Coordinator-G-TEC, Director, Research & Development, GITAM said, “Academia is the base for knowledge generation. However, in India, effective institutional mechanisms are largely missing in academia to translate R&D output into technological wealth”.
“G-TEC will work to network researchers with institutes, national laboratories, and industry, to create an ecosystem for technology development and technology transfer”. The centre will market assessments of technologies and upgrade them by collaborating with development labs.
“By uniting industry, academia, and research communities through the centre, we envision a future where innovation flourishes, bottlenecks are overcome, and India, along with Andhra Pradesh, emerges as a global leader in the realm of research and development”, he further added.
To identify difficulties faced from a commercial viewpoint, GITAM has contracted with organisations to establish market research in Life Sciences, Engineering, and Physical Sciences. Teams from G-TEC would evaluate innovations being produced concurrently by colleges and institutions.
Additionally, G-TEC will offer advising services like help with research, establishing contacts between research experts and partners in business, and capacity-building initiatives for a productive workforce.
