NTA Opens Registration for GAT-B & BET 2026 Exams; Apply by April 9

Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate, irrespective of whether they are applying for GAT-B 2026 or BET 2026 or both. However, the application fee will be different for each case.

GATE-B & BET 2026 Registration Open

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially commenced the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B) and the Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) for 2026. Aspiring candidates looking to pursue postgraduate programs in Biotechnology and allied areas can now submit their applications through the official portal at exams.nta.nic.in/gat-bet.

According to the official notification, the application window will remain open until 5:00 PM on April 9, 2026. This national-level entrance examination is the gateway for admission to Biotechnology and allied areas offered across participating institutions and for the award of DBT-Junior Research Fellowships (DBT-JRF).

GAT-B/ BET 2026 Eligibility and Programs Offered

GAT-B 2026 is conducted for admission to the following DBT-supported postgraduate programs:

  • M.Sc. Biotechnology and allied areas
  • M.Tech. Biotechnology and allied areas
  • M.Sc. Agricultural Biotechnology
  • M.V.Sc. Animal Biotechnology

While the NTA conducts the entrance test, candidates must verify the specific eligibility criteria (such as minimum percentage and subject requirements) of the individual participating universities where they intend to seek admission.

How to Apply for GAT-B 2026?

Eligible candidates can complete the registration process by following these steps on the official NTA portal:

  1. Registration: Visit the official NTA GAT-B website and register using a valid Email ID and Mobile Number.
  2. Application Form: Fill in the personal, academic, and contact details accurately.
  3. Document Upload: Upload scanned copies of the candidate's photograph, signature, and required category certificates (if applicable).
  4. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee through Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card, or UPI.
  5. Confirmation: Download and print the Confirmation Page for future reference.

GAT-B/ BET 2026 Exam Pattern

The GAT-B exam consists of two sections: Section A (General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) and Section B (Graduate-level Biology and Biotechnology) in English only.

GAT-B exam is conducted as a Computer-based Test consisting of 160 questions. Candidates are required to attempt 120 questions carrying 240 marks in total.

Meanwhile, for BET 2026, there are 200 MCQs, where candidates must answer 100 MCQs carrying 300 marks in total.

GAT-B 2026 Fellowship

GAT-B qualified candidates are eligible for a monthly stipend/ fellowship during their course of study, provided they secure admission into DBT-supported programs at participating institutions.

The stipend amount includes-

  • M.Sc. Biotechnology & Allied Areas - Rs.5000/- per month
  • M.Sc. Agricultural Biotechnology - Rs.7500/- per month
  • M.Tech. / M.V.Sc. programmes - Rs.12000/- per month
