IIT Madras has released the GATE 2027 schedule at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. Registration opens on August 14 2026, and the exam will be held on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. Results will be declared on March 19, 2027.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has released the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 schedule on the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The examination will be conducted jointly by IISc and the seven IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.

As per the official schedule, the GATE 2027 registration window on the GOAPS portal will open on August 14, 2026. Candidates can submit the application form without a late fee until September 21, 2026. The extended deadline to apply with a late fee is September 30, 2026.

The computer-based test (CBT) will be held across six days in February 2027, spread over three weeks. GATE 2027 will offer 30 test papers, including a new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper. The Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) paper has also been revised. Until GATE 2026, the exam was typically conducted over two weekends (four days). In GATE 2027, IIT Madras has extended the examination to three weekends, with exams scheduled on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027

GATE 2027 Application Fee

The GATE 2027 application fee must be paid online through net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI. Candidates applying for more than one paper must pay the application fee separately for each test paper.

What Is New in GATE 2027?

IIT Madras has introduced a new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper, taking the total number of GATE test papers to 30. The syllabus of the Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) paper has also been revised for this examination cycle.

The examination continues to cover disciplines related to engineering, science, humanities, commerce, arts and architecture. The GATE 2027 score will remain valid for three years from the date of the result announcement.

The scorecard is used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes at institutions supported by the Ministry of Education. Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also use GATE scores for direct recruitment.

How to Register for GATE 2027?

Candidates must apply online through the GOAPS portal linked to the official GATE 2027 website. The registration process will begin on August 14, 2026, and candidates can apply without a late fee until September 21, 2026.

  1. Visit the official website at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
  2. Click on the GOAPS registration link and create a new account.
  3. Fill in the required personal, academic and communication details.
  4. Upload the scanned photograph, signature, category certificate and degree proof.
  5. Select the primary test paper and, if eligible, the secondary test paper.
  6. Pay the application fee online and submit the application form.
  7. Download and save the confirmation page for future reference.
