GATE 2027 registration has opened on September 2 2026. Candidates can apply without late fee until September 27 2026. IIT Madras will hold the exam on February 6 7 13 14 20 and 21 2027.

GATE 2027 Registration Begins; Apply by September 27

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) opened GATE 2027 registration today. The application portal went live on September 2, 2026. Candidates can register online at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) has a two-phase application window. Regular registration closes on September 27, 2026. A late-fee window will remain open until October 5, 2026.

IIT Madras will conduct the examination across three weekends in February 2027. The GATE 2027 result will be released on March 19, 2027. DigiLocker-based registration is mandatory for all Indian nationals this year.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for GATE 2027?

Candidates studying in the third year or higher of an undergraduate programme can apply. Those who have completed a government-approved degree are also eligible. The qualifying degree may be in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities.

There is no upper age limit for appearing in GATE 2027. Foreign nationals from select countries can also register through the official portal. Candidates must upload valid supporting documents during registration.

What Is New in GATE 2027?

  • A new Robotics and Automation (RA) test paper has been introduced.
  • The syllabi of all 30 test papers have been updated.
  • Biotechnology (BT) and Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) papers have been revised.
  • Sectional paper codes for XE, XH and XL papers have changed.
  • DigiLocker linking is now compulsory for every Indian applicant.

The fee given below applies to a single test paper. Candidates opting for two papers must pay double the applicable fee. Payment can be made online through net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI.

How to Register for GATE 2027?

Registration must be completed through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Candidates can follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official portal at goaps.iitm.ac.in.
  2. Create a GOAPS account using a valid email ID and mobile number.
  3. Link and verify your identity through DigiLocker if you are an Indian national.
  4. Enter the required academic details, select the test paper and choose exam-city preferences.
  5. Upload the necessary documents in the prescribed format and size.
  6. Pay the application fee online through net banking, card, or UPI.
  7. Submit the application form and download the confirmation page for future reference.
A First for GATE

GATE 2027 introduces Robotics and Automation as a standalone test paper. The addition reflects rising industry demand for automation talent. It also opens fresh PSU and PG admission pathways for robotics aspirants.
