In a significant development for higher education in India, DU and AMU have become part of a cohort of 105 prestigious universities to offer four-year UG courses.

New Delhi: Central Universities will offer four-year UG courses to provide global standards to the Indian education system and ensure that students receive a well-rounded education, encompassing academic rigor, skill development, research opportunities, and holistic growth.
Central universities include Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, Viswa Bharti University, Assam University, Silchar, Tezpur University, Central University of Jammu, Sikkim University, National Sanskrit University, and Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
The four-year multidisciplinary Bachelor's program will allow students to explore interdisciplinary subjects, gather different skills, and gain a deeper understanding of their chosen fields. And students can also focus on the majors and minors as per their preference.
UGC has also introduced the student-centric "Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP)" by incorporating a flexible choice-based credit system, and a multidisciplinary approach with multiple entry and exit options. The credit system ranges from 20-22 credits per semester.
Semesters 1,2 and 3 will primarily focus on the major areas of learning such as natural sciences, social science, humanities, mathematics and computational thinking, analysis, and vocational education.
Students will be able to choose a disciplinary or an interdisciplinary according to their preferences or areas of specialization in Semesters 4, 5, and 6. However, in semesters 7 and 8 students will take up research projects along with advanced disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses.
Some of the other Central Universities are Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, English And Foreign Languages University, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Rajiv Gandhi University, and central universities of Haryana, South Bihar, and Tamil Nadu are also included in the list of introducing FYUGP.
To ensure the success of the four-year undergraduate course, universities must engage in regular evaluations, seek feedback from stakeholders, and make necessary adjustments to optimize the overall learning experience.
