Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates Kendriya Vidyalaya and Initiates Six Projects at NIT Rourkela

New Delhi: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has inaugurated Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) and laid the foundation stones for six projects at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela.

NIT Rourkela has designated a 15-acre plot for constructing hostels, with half of the space allocated for a boys hostel with a capacity of 1,000 students

Additionally, the plans include the construction of three girls hostels at NIT Rourkela, each with a capacity of 500 seats, aiming to increase the enrollment of female students. The remaining area is earmarked for potential future hostel development.

NIT Rourkela upholds a reservation policy, ensuring a minimum of 20% seats for girls in every NIT Rourkela Course.

In the pursuit of sustainable practices on campus, the institute is in the process of constructing a 1.5 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant and faculty residences. Out of the three girls' hostels, one receives funding of Rs. 42.69 crore from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) as part of their CSR activity. The second girls' hostel is funded by the Ministry of Education under the EWS scheme fund, it stated.

Further, it added that the remaining portion of the project, with an estimated cost of INR 165.81 crores, will be accomplished with the assistance of HEFA (Higher Education Financing Agency). The infrastructural development of Kendriya Vidyalaya-NIT Rourkela will be facilitated by Coal India.

Addressing the gathering, Dharmendra Pradhan remarked that this educational institution hosts 8,000 students from India and abroad, with over 3,000 students hailing from Odisha. The success stories of NIT Rourkela's students extend globally, making them accomplished citizens. The projects inaugurated today will benefit more than 2,500 students

Moreover, the establishment of KV-NIT Rourkela marks a moment of joy, as it becomes the third KV in Rourkela, Pradhan said.
