The University of Calcutta is taking admission for PhD in Economics, Candidates will be selected on the basis of RET Examination and Final interview round. The interview date is December 9th, 2024.
The University of Calcutta released its application for PhD in Economics on November 11th, 2024. Students interested must fill out the application in the prescribed form and submit it at the University of Calcutta, 56A, B.T. Road, Kolkata 700050 between 10 AM to 3 PM before November 29th 2024.

University of Calcutta Ph.D. in Economics Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must go through the following eligibility criteria before applying for Ph.D in Economics admission at the Calcutta University
- Candidates may apply for admission to the Ph.D. program if they have a Master's degree in Economics or its equivalent and have earned at least 55% of the possible points overall, or a grade of "B" on the UGC 7-point scale.
- According to the UGC standard, candidates who belong to SC, ST, OBC, differently-abled, and other restricted categories may be eligible for a 5% mark relaxation.

- Use the URL @caluniv.ac.in/admission/CU_RET_Form.pdf to download the application form. Fill it out online and send it in with a self-attested copy of your pertinent grades and the application fee receipt that you received from State Bank Collect.
- Online payment for MISC fees can be made at @onlinesbi.com/collect, then select the state (West Bengal) and type corporate–-educational institution University.
- Write the application for admission to the Ph.D. program and fill out the remarks box. Ignore the registration number.
- Take Print out copy of the payment receipt.
- On or before the deadline, turn in a hard copy of your application form, two copies of current color passport-size photos, a bank receipt, and any other pertinent paperwork to the Department of Economics Office, University of Calcutta, 56A, B.T. Road, Kolkata 700050, between 10 AM and 3 PM.
University of Calcutta Ph.D. in Economics Application Fee
Candidates' registration for a Ph.D in Economics from University of Calcutta will be successful after paying the application fee at the time of submission of the application as per the table mentioned below:

University of Calcutta Ph.D. in Economics Course Structure
The course structure for the Ph.D in Economics at the University of Calcutta is given below:
- The test consists of one essay-style question for 30 marks and 35 multiple-choice questions (MCQ) worth 70 marks.
- Economic theory (40 marks), mathematical economics and econometrics (30 marks), development economics, and Indian economics (30 marks) are all included in the test syllabus.
- While questions from Development Economics and Indian Economics are research-based essay formats, questions from Economic Theory, Mathematical Economics, and Econometrics are multiple-choice questions.
The date for the list of final selection of candidates is still to be declared. The notice for the final selected candidates will be available at the University of Calcutta campus notice board as well as the notification section of CU’s official website.
